Generally speaking, I've been a loyal customer and had been satisfied with their service and their selection of ice cream. I always 9 out of 10 get the Brownie Supreme Sundae from their Sundae Specialties line. However, being back there yesterday around 5-5:30ish, I just found out that the prices had gone up when I got the same selection for myself and my mother.
My general issue(s) start with the pricing model not being clearly defined. In the past, I always get the Medium size version of the Brownie Supreme (which was two scoops for $6) out of the Small, Medium, and Large prices which are usually $4 to $8 on the Menu signs outside their shop. If they can change or make it more clear next time on their OUTSIDE sign on Sundae specialties being one price/size of $8 then there won't be any confusion for any returning customers.
Though the new size of the Sundaes do somewhat justify the price, I do wish there was a size selection like before, but I can see with the toppings (especially the brownies which are a popular topping) why they've raised and consolidated everything for that price.
My next issue is the lack of customizing options for how you want your ice cream done. I've always had the fudge topping and brownies between the scoops, which is what the ice cream shop had done in the past. I would always tip them for doing that service, since that's what I'm PAYING them for. They don't seem to do that anymore which doesn't really seem customer-friendly, yet they STILL ASK FOR TIPS BEFORE PAYING for your ice cream, which brings me to my final point...
Speaking of Tips... while I can, however reluctantly, accept why you've raised the prices of your Sundae Specialty line there shouldn't be a reason to continue asking for them. Talking with the clerk about the prices was all well and good, but having my requests for preparing my sundaes that I've paid $16 for rejected and STILL ASKING FOR A TIP, is a pretty unprofessional way to do business with your returning customers. Tips should be given when the service is done well, the way YOU want it to be done.
I want to continue supporting your business, but you must change your pricing model at least for your outside sign (I've seen afterwards that you have a website with updated prices) and REDUCE (if not altogether get rid of) REQUESTS FOR TIPS. Many of your customers are not from Berkley, and I live a little farther away so in terms of money, just buying your ice cream when I could've gone to your competitors who are closer (and cheaper to buy from) to me should be enough. I gave a dollar to be a good sport, but don't expect every customer to give you a tip, especially your returning ones who've shown goodwill by continuing to pay for...
Read moreI usually love Clarkâs. They have a great variety of ice cream and for a line that can get ridiculously long in the spring and summer, it moves fairly quickly. A few months back, I got a small chocolate peanut butter. There was hair in it. I thought maybe at first it was mine, maybe I was shedding because it was a light colored strand. But then I found two long hairs in there. How does this even happen? I assumed at the time that it was probably something that happened at the manufacturer and not at the actual ice cream store. Not going to make a fuss, I just threw it out and forgot about it. Then I got ice cream over the weekend with my family. This time the black walnut. And I found a hair in this ice cream as well. This is so weird! How does hair end up in ice cream? Itâs tightly packed into the little container, so it wasnât mine and it didnât get in there between leaving the shop and driving home. Clarks would be best served to contact their supplier and let them know of these concerns because obviously, theyâre not following some type of health and safety protocol. Maybe the employees arenât wearing hair nets. At the ice cream shop, they donât wear hairnets either. So, maybe as a precaution, the people actually dishing out the ice cream should. Like I said, I like Clarks. I want to support a business in the area. But itâs happened twice and I canât think that Iâm the only person whoâs had this issue. The owners could maybe also talk to their staff about being a little bit friendlier. The kids there arenât the...
Read moreI have not been to many ice cream shops in the area that sell Ashbyâs ice cream and that is a shame because it is so good! The flavor options are very unique and I love getting to try a flavor I have never heard of before. I have never had a flavor that was not great and most recently I have loved the Nanaâs Banana Pudding and Blueberry Muffin Top. They offer a variety of sizes to satisfy any size hunger and the prices are quite reasonable compared to the competition. I really like being able to get 2 different flavor scoops even in a smaller size since I can never pick just one flavor. The store itself it small, so it is a tight squeeze when it gets crowded, but the staff is friendly, helpful and very efficient, so even if there is a line, you should be in and out quickly. The longest part is making...
