We really like this restaurant. The Berkeley area has been lacking Indian for a long time. There is an Indian restaurant downtown Berkeley on 12 mile that seems to change names every three or four months but we’ve never been impressed with that when this place came along. We were excited to try it, and not disappointed. we actually come about once a month now sometimes take out sometimes dine in there aren’t any dishes that I would not recommend. The appetizers are really good especially the samosas. The classics like tikka masala and butter chicken are very very good not too too sweet definitely a little spicy but not in a bad way and the chicken is always cooked really nicely. I like that the menu is categorized by meat choices ( or non-meat choices, of course and ). I haven’t tried the lamb there yet, but it is next on my list. The folks next to us had a sizzling lamb dish and it looked amazing. I asked them what they thought and they said that they were blown away by it their words not mine. Service here is always great. It’s a pretty small place so it’s easy for them to be very attentive. If it were much bigger place, though, I sincerely believe that the service would still be excellent. I really really like their Naan bread. Portions here are pretty good. Definitely not too small. I think most people wind up taking a little bit home with them which is always great because Indian food reheats awesomely. Another nice feature is their takeout. You can order online very easily and conveniently. Pro tip get on their mailing list because they often send great coupons, we have often enjoy 20 or 25% off our entire order just by being on their mailing list. And the deals come reasonably frequently once every month...

Carry out review - The restaurant is so nice and is very clean! Love the decor and the ambiance when I walked in.

I got Paneer tikka masala (vegetarian) hot spice level. Perfect spice level if you can handle heat, with a hint of sweetness to balance things out. They mean it when they say hot which is refreshing. 😁 Rice is perfectly cooked and the naan is very impressive! You can tell that they spare no expense and perfected their recipes on first bite.

With the other Indian restaurant opening down the street I would’ve been timid coming into this if I were them, BUT they have definitely won the war of the turf with pink garlic. I’ve tried all the Indian restaurants around and this one I will definitely be frequenting!

Looking forward to trying other things on the menu. Well done !!!!!

Dine - in edit- the people who work here are lovely and greet each carry out and group dining in with amazing hospitality, their hospitality deserves 10 stars. Very attentive, very helpful, and will continue to support them. The food is outstanding, the portions are 2x bigger then any of their competitors. The quality is consistent with dining and carry out. Can’t say enough great things about this place and I am excited to see how far they go! They have really got a great thing going.

My only complaint is that some of the diners / carry out clients were beyond demanding and rude feeding off of one anothers energy to the point where I wanted to step in on several occasions. DO BETTER berkley, support local and be kind to those who feed...

Don't shy away from this little gem of a fine food restaurant! delicious food, great variety, fine service, immaculately clean, great presentation, very nice staff….we've eaten here five times over the past ten weeks and have not been disappointed. So very happy to have this great little restaurant in our neighborhood! Update 15 December 2022: Over a dozen times eating here, have brought guests several times, everyone very much enjoys the food and then, last night, something different. The restaurant was the busiest i've ver seen it, was very happy to see that. The food was good, but, it was off and portions were noticeably smaller. One dish ordered "Medium" was, at best, "Mild". A Kourma was more of a paste base than a sauce base. A lamb dish was oh, so dry. Even the Naan was off. I did write above "The food was good", it was good…but, it was nothing as good as all of our previous meals in this restaurant. We'll go back hoping for a return to the better food products including the old sized portions. If our next meals at Noorjihan are similar to our last, we won't be returning. Once you establish a meal standard, any lowering of that standard is sufficient reason to fins a new place to eat. Took...

The food was great! The Vegetable Samosas were awesome - a crispy outer pastry shell and a soft creamy mashed-potato-like filling with peas and spices. The chutneys that came with the Samosas were super tasty too. My wife had the Chicken Vindaloo. The chicken was moist and flavorful with super soft, but still together chunks of potato. The sauce was rich and tangy with lots of flavor. I had the Chicken Tandoori which was fantastic! It's two chicken quarters (leg and thigh) served on a bed of onions on a red-hot plate still sizzling from the oven. Don't be put off by the bone-in. The bones add a lot of flavor and the meat just falls off the bone anyway. Put some chicken and onions on a piece of Naan... awesome. We'll be back! the pic is the Chicken Tandoori.
