Not a horrible experience, but not the best. I took my friendâs recommendation of coming here to look at wedding dresses because this is where she got hers at. I was there when she had her fitting and everyone was so kind and helpful so I was really expecting to have the same results.
I scheduled my appointment for my future mother in law and all my bridesmaids to be there with me, and scheduled this at least 1.5 months ahead of time and sent 15-20 pictures of what styles I liked and what I was looking at - granted, I didnât know how any of them would look on my body so I was open to trying them all! When I got there, we waited about 30-40 min before I even had started trying dresses on (which I was hoping since I sent pictures, dresses wouldâve been pulled and ready so I wasnât waiting around.) Appointment was at 430 and we didnât start trying dresses on until at least 5-5:15pm (they close at 6pm). I walked into the dressing room was extremely disappointed by the dresses that were selected, with the exception of one dress that i liked the fit but wasnât in love with it. When I told my stylist that I did like it but wasnât in love with it, she took that style and ran with it. I didnât see much variety of dresses after I said that when I really wanted to try on all styles. i did state that i wanted a simpler dress w some detail, but I didnât want to look like a disco ball. I was seeing a lot of way too plain dresses and they seemed to be like something I could buy on Amazon..Not to be rude, but I felt like I wasnât being shown a lot of options and wasnât being listened to. I tried on maybe 12 dresses and 5 of them I didnât even leave the dressing room in because it missed the mark so much. My friends were trying to help look at dresses off the rack and spoke with the stylist about them and she said âShe is going to hate those so donât have me involved in this.â and was rude to them. NowâŚmy friends know me more than a woman I just met, they were looking at the pictures I sent here and finding things off the rack that fit my options more. I waited a good 10-15 min in a dress that was falling off me before I was given more options. I felt there was a lot of wasted time. I could tell the stylist was getting frustrated w me and the situation and when I had the last dress on (which I liked but didnât love), and the stylist tells me âi feel like youâre being too indecisive and knit picking and you arenât going to be happy with anything you have on.â Yes. I was insecure but I wasnât in dresses I felt 100% comfortable in and wasnât in something I was in love with. i felt very pressured and uncomfortable because what I felt was that all I am is a sale, not a future bride trying to find the perfect dress. Before I walked out, I was told that my $200 applies only until midnight or I donât get it back. Understandable, and I knew that going into it if I didnât pick something, my deposit wasnât refunded - but Iâm not doing to settle on a dress if I donât love it, especially if Iâm wearing it on one of the most important days in my life. Just very disappointed in the experience. Hoping no one else has this because I came home feeling extremely defeated and felt like I didnât get to see anything I truly wanted or...
Read moreI had a fantastic experience shopping for my wedding dress with Shawn. She helped me find a dress that I absolutely loved.
I had a bad experience with Christina doing my alterations. First, she did something weird with the straps of the dress, making the square-neckline look like a trapezoid. She fixed that after I surfaced the issues. She also did a poor job of altering the dress to fit my bust. We had many appointments in all of them, my chest was flattened out, pancake-like, and looking asymmetrical and unflattering. She sewed the lace back together on the top in an unprofessional way. You could see obvious stitching and could tell that someone had cut the lace and sewn it back together. The Monday evening the week of my wedding I was at the shoppe for 3 hours and my dress was still wrong. I cried at home after some of my alterations appointments with Christina and at the store the Monday before my wedding because I was so upset and worried about how my dress was looking!
Christina was very kind and professional in her communication with me. However, I was extremely disappointed with her work and how the dress I originally loved and felt extremely confident in was now unflattering on me. I left all of my appointments with her feeling anxious about my dress and sent my concerns via email to her.
I came back to the shoppe the next day (Tuesday evening) and was there for another three hours, followed by another three hours (Thursday evening) while the very talented seamstress, Alie, fixed Christinaâs work. My mom and I were amazed that Alie sewed the lace back together on the top so perfectly that you could not ever tell that it was ever cut. Alie also made the bust of my dress beautifully flattering. Once the bust was fixed we realized that some other parts of the top were wrong. There was boning sticking out causing a less flattering appearance on the side and something was also wrong in the front making it stick out in a weird way. Alie fixed those areas, too. I am so thankful to Alie for taking over my dress, for staying late two nights the week of my wedding, and for fixing my dress. On my wedding day, I felt beautiful in my dress thanks to Alie.
This was all very stressful, and Iâm surprised that this happened at a store with such a great reputation. If I could go back in time I would have requested a different seamstress the first time things started to go south with my dress. I am thankful that all of the staff members I interacted were very kind and understanding of my feelings about my dress and wanted to make sure I felt beautiful on my wedding day. If you get your alterations done here - ASK FOR ALIE!
Pics at the shoppe with makeup on are when I bought the dress. The next two pictures are from Tuesday after Alie worked on the dress for 3 hours and fixed the bust and lace. The rest are from my wedding day and show the further improvement from the three hours Alie worked on it on the Thursday. I still wonder if my dress could have looked even better had I worked with Alie from the beginning.
Iâm still giving a 3 star rating because I did really love my dress when I purchased it, had great experiences with Alie & Shawn, and felt beautiful on my...
Read moreThe Wedding Shoppe in Berkley is INCREDIBLE! I went here because I live nearby and because my best friend bought her very CLASSY wedding dress here a couple years ago. This was the second place I looked for a dress and I found that The Wedding Shoppe had WAY more options. They also had nice changing rooms with DOORS (unlike the curtains at other places), giving me much more privacy.
I was VERY particular about the kind of dress I wanted, and my Sales Stylist/Consultant, Breck, searched through HUNDREDS of dresses to find exactly what I was looking for. Breck WORKED HER BUTT OFF running back and forth for me. She was so kind and real - genuinely caring and attentive.
When we were in the last minutes of my appointment and I STILL hadnât found âThe ONE," Breck asked if Iâd ever tried a specific style of dress and if Iâd be open to it. It wasnât a style Iâd considered before but, OF COURSE, the style expert knew best!! I tried on the dress she suggested, and it was THE ONE!!! Breck didnât stop there â she brought me EVERY accessory I could ever want to make sure I looked absolutely FABULOUS.
Breck did NOT push me to buy the dress or any of the accessories. She simply let me know that buying the dress that day would save me $200. One thing that surprised me (but wasnât bad) was that I took the dress I tried on home THAT SAME DAY! It was in my size, and they explained that I could come back 4 months before my wedding for alterations (this was 8 months before my wedding).
I asked if I could store the dress with them, but they said it would cost extra, so I took it home. Itâs now hanging in my closet, and they told me to keep it away from bathrooms and kitchens. They also reassured me not to worry about wrinkles because it will be steamed after alterations.
A cool, unique touch: When youâre done trying on dresses, you sign an ACTUAL wedding dress in their lobby with a Sharpie. The dress is COVERED in signatures from brides, and it looks so cool!
The Wedding Shoppe â and especially Breck, the BEST Sales Consultant â were absolutely AMAZING!!!
I tipped Breck $100 for the two hours she put into helping me find my perfect dress! I hope this rave review helps her and The Wedding Shoppe even more because they DESERVE IT. Thank you, Breck, for showing me so much kindness and for making me feel like a...
