(Last visited March 13, 2025.) I've visited Hop Häus quite a few times and have managed to check out a variety of dishes both before and after the legendary Von Hurd joined the squad. Here's the summation of my experiences here.
Atmosphere/Appearance: I love the vibe in here. It's so open, chill, laid back and it's a really come-as-you-are sort of place which I definitely fancy. The music is a bit upbeat, there's a private parking lot, the staff are friendly and take good care of you, what more could you want?
Food: I won't go over all 15+ things I've had here, but I'll highlight a few of them. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is delightful. Tender, buttery, spicy and satisfying. The wings here are good, but you have to be careful. Depending on who's in the kitchen, your wings will come out really dry or tender and juicy. That is an inconsistency that's not okay in my book. I hope they've figured that out now. My favorite flavor is the Buffalo Blue that gives you a bit of spice with mild creaminess. I was also a big fan of the Bison Cast Iron Mac & Cheese, but could use some hot sauce on that thang! Lol. The Garlic Parmesan wings are a bit dry... and lacked flavor, but not everyone can get those right. Overall, the food here is solid. I haven't ventured much into the entrees since I tend to stick to wings when I hit up places like these.
Value: Very affordable. It's a neighborhood bar/tavern so you won't break the bank here.
In conclusion, you'll see me here more often! I love the craft beers they have on tap, the wide variety of menu items and just the atmosphere that makes me feel like family. Check...
Read moreMy family and I came in for the first time because this place is in our town and we love to support local plus it had great reviews. Sadly, we did not get what everyone else claims. We got there very early on Friday November 3rd and there was maybe 3/4 tables sat. We were happy we sat by the window because it was a great area to sit. Then things began to unravel. Our waitress did not tell us about happy hour, we waited for water refills until she brought a pitcher. We ordered 1 cubano and 2 haus burgers and told her the temperature of medium rare or medium if they couldn’t do medium rare. What we got was dry, overcooked, unflavored food. When the waitress FINALLY came back and asked how everything came out I told her way overcooked and dry. She said “sorry” offered NO solution and was almost walking away until I asked for extra condiments to make it more edible. This was disappointing and unprofessional. Not a good business practice. I was a waitress for many years and would let my customers know about specials, happy hour etc. And I most certainly would never let a customer walk out unhappy with food. I would have done anything I could to try to make it right and offer to remake. Going out is a treat and to drop over $80 on food that was disappointing is not ideal. We also tipped even though we felt she didn’t deserve as much as we gave but we are good people and thought maybe she was just having a “bad day”. Please, whatever comes out of this I hope they will do better for customers in the future....
Read moreIt's a shame that I find myself writing this review considering how much I truly enjoy the food here at Hop Haus. My friend and I come for the bison burger and sweet potato fries almost religiously. However, I can't tell you how many times I have come to Hop Haus (this has happened at both locations - Southington, and Berlin) hungry, and I am told that the kitchen is closed. The hours on the website to not coincide with the live kitchen hours, which is incredibly confusing and misleading. It seems like the kitchen closes at a different time every night.
Last night my friend and I went to the Berlin location around 8 pm on a Sunday. We sat at the bar and was eventually greeted with menus. We already knew what we wanted so when the bartender finally came back so we placed our regular order right away. She came back from the kitchen several minutes later while laughing, telling us that the kitchen is cleaning up and closing so they were unable to make our meals. I found this incredibly peculiar after spending 20 minutes sitting at the bar, and placing our entire order with the bartender. We were offered drinks for our trouble and time, however there was absolutely no follow through, and no sense of urgency. We left very upset and hungry to go find a burger somewhere else.
Unfortunately, I will be choosing to not come to Hop Haus anymore; which is a shame, because they make my favorite burger and fries. But it's always a risk when I decide...
