Sad to have to post this. I have visited this breakfast/lunch shop several times. While my order has been incorrect more often than correct, I always gave them the benefit of the doubt, whether that be perhaps the time of day and how busy they were when I walked in, the age/inexperience of the counter person taking the orders, my fault for not checking my entire order before I left with it, etc. But after so many mistakes, and the last which included the cook blatantly trying to conceal his error versus simply remaking a sandwich within my order which included a food allergy ingredient...I am completely done patronizing this place. To drive home and discover this made my blood boil. I will, at minimum, say the inconvenience of returning to the store to address it was met with professionalism and understanding from a young man who stated he was managing the store that day and advised the owner was not present or available. The young lady who took my order was sweet and certainly not to blame for the cook's negligence as she was thorough enough to repeat my order before I paid and my receipt also confirmed the same. While I was refunded my money (which I did not ask for), but is certainly the least any business can do for something so critical that could have resulted in a medical emergency, I asked to be contacted by the owner so we could discuss the matter and ensure it was addressed properly with his cooking staff. To date, I have yet to receive that call, and it has been approximately 3-4 weeks. I can deal with occasional mistakes as we are all human and make them. But there's no justification for food allergy ignorance, negligence, and blatant disregard of the same to save a few minutes. I patiently waited for my order and would have absolutely understood and waited longer had I been told the cook made a mistake and was remaking one of the sandwiches I ordered. Food allergies come with severe consequences from illness to death. Might sound trivial to some, but experience it in your own life or someone close to you and you'll understand. Sadly, this was the last time I will visit this establishment and my poor experience will be shared...
Read moreRaceway reopened recently and seems to have staff that don’t know what they are doing at all.
I went to go try Raceway again. I used to get breakfast bagels and they are always amazing. This time I called to get a cheesesteak. The lady asked me what my order was twice. Which was okay because I know they are busy so she may not be able to pay attention/hear the best. Then after that she asked me my order 4 more times. This is when I started getting concerned during the phone call. So I asked for a cheesesteak with onions on it and she kept asking for the onions on the side and I kept refusing. I didn't know why she was so persistent with them on the side. Then she asked if I wanted my cheesesteak seasoned or not. This really threw me off. But maybe she meant light seasoning or heavy. Or maybe its just normal there to get no seasoning and its me who doesn’t know that.
Beyond the very strange phone call. I ended up picking up my meal. The meat was very good as expected. But… they put raw onions on my cheesesteak. This was the cherry on top of my whole experience.
Giving benefit of the doubt. The very next day, which is today, I went to raceway bagel in person. I told them that they keep messing up my orders and skimping my ingredients. After I said that I ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese and butter, nothing crazy. When I got home to eat it, it turns out they gave me an everything bagel instead, with a half of stick of butter in it under the cream cheese. And thats not an exaggeration. When someone tells you not to skimp on a meals ingredients, that obviously doesn’t mean to add a half of stick of butter to kill me, it means to add more cream cheese. But that part could be my fault. Them messing up my orders again and again is not my fault.
Raceway bagels is amazing but after this new reopening something has changed. They could have new staffing but I don’t know. Hopefully they fix it or train all the new workers on how to make the food. And then I can retract...
Read moreOrdered a steak, egg, cheese on bagel. There was a stench that wreaked havoc from the moment it crept through the door. I had to check and make sure my pup wasn’t wet, from the wet dog smell. The steak was over cooked, blackened - almost as if it smelled and then the cook tried to burn the musk out of it. After my husband decided against it, he offered it to the dog - who then declined too. I believe this to be a result of poor cleaning of the grill.
It’s a shame. They were doing so great for awhile, so long, however the last few times it’s been declining more and more, incomplete sandwiches, mistakes and a clear decline in quality. It’s seems there is a lack of care or help. My husband surely isn’t interested in going back and I think I’ll no longer make a defense for them in going back either. I don’t normally write reviews, but as the owner instructed so rudely to confront him FIRST before making a review - we could not get through to the store. We did try.
Please humble your employees and your business Raceway, as business is good now but if the decline continues - you’ll become one of the rest of the bfast spots and not one that once STOOD out. Make yourselves the...
