Cozy Brunch Vibes
JeanJean
We selected this place form a list of the best places for breakfast/brunch in Nashville. It was the PB&J biscuit that wooed me into selecting this place out of the list and the location was sort of near where we were staying. The place was busy, but no wait during our visit. The location is a residential neighborhood in a converted home. We sat inside which is cute in that they make use of the house floorplan to create dining areas, but there is also very nice seating at picnic tables outside which adds to the ambience. The food is very appealing and sounds homemade. They also offer an all you can eat option which, if I read correctly, is mandatory for groups of 6 or more. I was humored to see a group of about 8 college-age boys eating at a picnic table as we arrived and still eating as we left! And their food looked pretty fabulous - from pancakes to shrimp and grits. We ordered single meals and they were very good at decent prices. However, my biscuit which was about 1/4 the size of the chicken on the biscuit, was quite dry and was more like a crispy lid and bottom. I had to eat my meal with a fork and knife. The chicken was pretty phenomenal - well seasoned! It's a cute presentation to have the oversized topping, but the biscuit simply needs to be bigger than the cute little ones they make here if serving a sandwich on it. My husband had the Hot Kentucky brown which was ample and served in a bowl, and so much easier to eat with a fork and knife. A bonus is that they serve coffee generously and we were even able to take some to go. LOVE that! However, it's easy to get focused on this aspect of success and forget about some little things such as the state of the restrooms. The door into the one I used was so smudged and dirty, I had a hard time controlling my mother-side from finding some cleaner and rag to scrub it down myself. The bathroom could do from a deep cleaning and spruce up as well. Overlooking this sanitary aspect and appearance, I'm sorry, reflects in my opinion of the place. This place offers some wow and some satisfying food. I'm glad we went and I'd like to take my own college-age son, but we'll probably try a new place next time.

We got off to a really rough start at Nashville Jam Co. I had reservations through Open Table for 5. I called the restaurant and I talked to a hostess named Becky to add a 6th. She said it wouldn't be a problem at all. We were also scheduled to eat inside, but when our party arrived, Becky said that our table was not available and that she split-up the tables and we would have to either wait or sit outside. I discussed the situation with her and she was extremely combative and argumentative with me. There was no need for her to split-up the tables since we were a 5-top and we simply needed to add a 6th. All she had to do was add another chair. Our group settled on sitting outside, but they tried to seat us next to the trash and there were flies everywhere. We decided to wait it out and finally got sat after waiting outside for 45 minutes. Aubrey was a front-of-the -house employee that was very kind to me and really tried to help us out as much as she could and Anthony (Tony), our server, did a phenomenal job waiting on us. The food was outstanding, but the mimosas were flat and the juice was really not good. Overall, the food (minus the drink) and the service were fantastic, but my experience with the hostess Becky left us with little reason to return. I've had a lot worse dining experiences, but I've also had much better and I never enjoy leaving a poor review being a former server; however, the treatment I received from the hostess Becky when we got there and during our dining experience which included rude and unacceptable looks from her even after I apologized to her (which really wasn't necessary) were totally...

Most of the food we had was quite good. Especially the biscuits and jams, they were top-notch! And our waitress was incredibly sweet… However, my party of four had some not insignificant issues I wanted to get out there.

From one server to another, allow me to give some helpful advice: Use. A. Notepad. Shame on the business if they’re not supplying them, and shame on the waitress if it was due to overconfidence and laziness.

I had to repeat my order three times so that the waitress could “properly stack the order in her head” which was such an odd statement for a professional to say to their customer. My main course had the wrong side item and wrong style of eggs. When we asked her if she could get me some grits to sub out the potatoes she added incorrectly, along with the biscuit basket she similarly forgot about, we only ever received the latter. Mind you, this establishment is not big whatsoever, especially when the outdoor seating is desolate, and there appeared to be at least 3-4 other waiters on staff.

We had other problems with the food too. The slab of tomato was an odd menu decision, even if it was ripe, which it unfortunately was not. One friend had a visible eggshell in their scrambled eggs. Another had cold, soggy chicken and bacon, all of which had been drenched in hot sauce without request. Lastly, they stated they were out of raspberry jam, despite there being dozens of bottles of the stuff at the register. Most of this stuff is excusable, but it’s not my place to judge. Just want to share our sub-par experience. Although I visited from Chicago, I personally do not plan to...
