My husband and I enjoyed the casual euro rustic ambiance at Boro Cafe on a trip from NJ to MD. It was conveniently on our way and easy to spot from the road leading to The Concord development in Wilmington DE. We were offered samples of coffee and homemade gelato (passion fruit) and sorbet (apricot) which were excellent. For lunch, we dove into a tasty butternut squash quiche and an apple-cheddar scone. The quiche had a nice crust and flavorful bite-sized chunks of squash; the scone was pleasantly lighter than many we've had elsewhere; coffee and tea paired very well with these items. We topped it off with servings of passion fruit and giandugia (hazelnut) gelato which were both delicious - creamy and very flavorful (the 'real deal'). We took home slices of Basque cheesecake, two large cookies and a cheese danish. The cheesecake was divine - lighter than the traditional NY-style version and topped with a lovely apricot glaze. The chocolate chunk w/ sea-salt cookie was also a homerun :) I'm sure the brown sugar cookie and danish will be just as good when we enjoy them the next day. We think that additional lunch items (perhaps a soup du jour and/or panini?) would be perfect things to round out the menu. Oh and this winter, we MUST return for the...
Read moreWent to Boro for breakfast today with our two little kiddos to check out a new spot. The pastry selection was impressive and all the options looked delicious. We like savory breakfasts with some sweet sides so I got two quiches, cinnamon bun, lemon bar, two lattes, and a smoothie. The cinnamon bun was delicious! Best I’ve had in Delaware tbh. The quiches were tasty, but came out ice cold (had to ask to get them heated up again and still was cold on bottom). The biggest disappointment was the smoothie - totally icy and bland. I prefer smoothies with no added sugar etc., but it wasn’t good unfortunately. Lattes were good. My additional constructive feedback would be that it would be nice to have real silverware for eating in. The elevated experience you’re striving for would be much improved. Maybe that’s just me though, I avoid plastic silverware as much as possible! I will definitely come back to give this spot another try, taste the gelato, and I hope to...
Read moreYou HAVE to go to Boro Cafe. 1st - the food is simply amazing - gourmet comfort food at great prices. We loved it so much on our visit from CA to the east coast that we went twice! The burgers are simply amazing, as is the Salmon and salads. The gelato is made on site and is simply amazing. The pastries are also made on site - big favorites were the passion fruit tartlets and choc chip cookies. The lavendar honey spritzer is amazing. Coffee made to order. 2nd - it's simply lovely inside! Just a nice fresh and inviting feel, even with some comfy chairs to sit in. 3rd - The owner and staff are super friendly, which sometimes is a rarity. Always a hello, don't mind giving tastes of the gelato and answering questions. The chef / owner often comes out and says hello. (Ask to meet him - he's great!) I wish we had one in California ... But we will come by every time...
