My recent visit to La Tolteca was nothing short of spectacular. This charming Mexican family-owned restaurant delivered an exceptional dining experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The vibrant décor, featuring traditional Mexican art and colorful textiles, set the perfect mood for a delightful meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. The food at La Tolteca was the highlight of the evening. Every dish I tried was bursting with authentic flavors and prepared with the utmost care. The salsa and guacamole were fresh and flavorful, providing the perfect start to the meal. The main courses were equally impressive; the enchiladas were generously filled and topped with a rich, savory sauce, while the carne asada was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. One of the standout features of La Tolteca is their commitment to using high-quality, fresh ingredients. This dedication was evident in every bite, from the tender meats to the crisp vegetables and handmade tortillas. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring that no one left the table hungry. The overall experience at La Tolteca was truly wonderful. The combination of delicious food, warm hospitality, and a cozy atmosphere made for an unforgettable evening. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic and delightful Mexican dining experience. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu!

This visit was good until it was not.   Visited the restaurant with my family.  For a started, I ordered Sopa de Mariscos.  This soup was to include shrimp, mussels, crab, and calamari.  However, my soup only included Shrimp, Fish, and scallops.   Despite of the soup not including everything, it was still the star of my visit.  For the main course, I ordered  Simpati Especial. This entree was absolutely TERRIBLE. It had so much oil that it could not be enjoyed.  I was hoping that if I took it home, that I could salvage it but due to the overabundance of oil, it could not be saved and had to be trashed.  At the end of our meal, I asked the waiter for the dessert menu.  His response was one of disgust.  This behavior intensified a s my brother-in-law requested carrier box for his entree and appetizer.  The behavior exhibited by the waiter was unmerited and completely Ruin what would have been a decent visit.   We didn't understand why he was so disrespectful as we ask barely anything of him the entire time we were there and thought I should have complained about the Nasty Simpati Especial.

This was one of the first places I visited for dinner after I had moved out to the First State, wanting to find a good local Mexican restaurant. This one also happened to be near my residence so I decided to come here. Atmosphere wise, it is very typical of a Mexican restaurant with typical decor and artwork related to Mexico. It's tasteful and well done but nothing too unique compared to the many other Mexican restaurants I've been to. The service was good as well with the server ensuring my water was filled and my order brought out in a timely fashion. Though it was a while since I've been here, the burrito I had was pretty good with a good sauce smothering it and the meat was cooked well. The queso was pretty tasty as well. The only oddity I recall was that the auga de jamaica was a smaller serving than I typically see for agua fresca served in a Mexican restaurant. Just an observation I had when I was there compared to other restaurants in the area. Overall, I enjoy La Tolteca's Wilmington location and I will be coming back when I get the craving for Mexican food.

We stopped in to check out La Tolteca for dinner last night after shopping. We are a family of 5 but last nitht only had our youngest daughter with us so we were a party of 3. We got there early at 5pm and were seated quickly. I thought that was a good sign but that is where the good news ends. After being seated we Sat for "25" mins waiting for a waiter to come over to our table and even offer us a drink or the free chips that come out before. I was packing up to leave but my husband was starving and talked me into staying. Finally a woman comes to the table to tell us she is not our waitress but will take our order. She brings the chips but we don't have any drinks amd not even a napkin on the table. Meanwhile let me add that the table right next to us had sat down about the same time and had chips, drinks and already ordered. They were a large party of about 8. I have to wonder why they were treated like customers and we were treated like a burden. Mind you we were ordering drinks, apps and our good paying customers. Finally we order with the lady who claims she was not our waitress and wait for the drinks and food. I had ordered a Margarita on the rocks with no salt. Sure enough out comes a margarita with salt.. I'm already over it but she says she will bring another one. Mext out comes our app of nachos and beef and cheese. It was luke warm and mushy like white cheese wiz drownded all over the nachos. Not fresh at all like the nachoes you can get at McKenzie brew house with fresh salsa. It was just bad..... I ate two chips but my husband was starving and ate it although he agreed. Then the food comes out looking exactly like what you would expect from the closed down Don Pablos. My husband got a combo meal. His taco that came as part of it was burried under mushy flat refried beans that look like cat food. The two quesadillas that came out looked not even as good as what you'll get it Taco Bell. He was extremely disappointed. My daughter got children's meal with rice beans and a taco or taco was so mushy that she could not pick it up and we had to cut it this was supposed to be a crunchy taco. Again with the mushy cat food beans. I ordered the taco salad in a corn shell. It was OK.... Better then my husband or daughters dinner but that was noy saying much. So we ordered those items and 2 Coronas at 1 margarita. The bill was upwards $90 for the three of us for food we could have gotten at Taco Bell... terrible experience terrible service and very poor food quality. There are many many more places that you could spend your hard-earned money for a better Meal. Please be...

I really don't like to give a bad reviews but..google keeps asking me to review this place and everytime it comes up I realize that I guess it still bothers me. I have given this place 3 tries over the course of 2 years and all 3 have had something go wrong. When dining in I ordered a whiskey and sprite and a shot of whiskey. I made sure to specify house whiskey. On my check I was charged house for the whiskey and sprite and Jack Daniels for the shot. When I questioned the server about it he said "you drank it so there is nothing I can do about it". I was like but that is not what I ordered and it was a shot, you drink a shot in 1 sip how was I supposed to know mid sip? He repeated "you already drank it so there is nothing I can do". So I paid and tipped and just decided that I would never dine in here again. Moving on to take out, twice now (about a year apart) I ordered take out for my family for dinner, we love cheese dip so I ordered one along with togo chips and salsa and asking and paying for additional chips. We didn't get any chips at all (I specifically asked for the extra chips the second time because this had happened before). I didn't call the first time but now that it had happened again I wanted to call them more just to kind of let them know how frustrating it is to get all the way home and not have everything you paid for. The man on the phone said I could come back to get them and I explained that they are about 15 minutes away by the time I got back my food would be cold so I am just going to go to the Acme because its 2 minutes away. He responded "so then you're good?" I didn't know how to respond so I was like uhhhh and then the phone hung up. I would like to think maybe the hanging up part was an accident. I will give everyone the benefit of the doubt but I don't really know. I guess it was part my fault for not checking the bag before I left since it had happened before but I thought for sure it was a fluke the first time. I guess at the end of the day I just...

La Tolteca was a fantastic dining experience.

The food was great. Most Mexican restaurants give a free order of chips and salsa when your party sits down. It's hard to mess this up, but the salsa was really delicious. Slightly spicy but not too much. It was a great way to start off dinner. A very well-rounded menu left me wanting to order multiple meals. The menu itself was very readable. The descriptions of the food were accurate and concise, which is a really good thing if spanish isn't your natural language. My girlfriend ordered steak fajitas, and i ordered bacon wrapped shrimp on a house salad. She claimed that the fajitas were so.e of the best she had ever had, and my shrimp wraps were nothing short of delicious. The portions of both meals were big. We had plenty of food and both of us couldn't finish.

The service, just like the food, was very good. We were greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in the door, and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was always on top of our drinks and made sure we had everything we needed. Our food came out in a very timely manner. Other Mexican restaurants have a habit of talking ten thousand years to get your food out, regardless of how busy they are. Not La Tolteca. Oir food was out in what felt like not even 15 minutes. Our food was served, and nothing was messed up or cold. Pricing is a part of service, so im talking about it here. The prices were not super cheap, but you absolutely are not getting ripped off by any means. Very good value. My girlfriend and I got out of there spending $50-$60 after tip.

The atmosphere was great. Nothing felt out of place. The temperature of the building was comfortable. It wasn't too loud or too bright or dark. It was a good time.

A great place for a family, or a date, or chilling...
