Sleeping Bird Doughnuts — Restaurant in Wilmington

It was just a few months ago that I found myself craving a good donut. To my surprise I came across a NEW DONUT shop in DE....unheard of.

After one try I was hooked and try to make a stop in every other week to sample some of the donuts from that weeks menu. The brioche is just so amazing and delicious. The stuffed donuts in my opinion are the best! I would highly recommend going in the afternoon too as they often do BOGO donuts from 1-2PM.

Only thing holding them back from 5 stars is the hours and availability. While I completely understand they are very popular right now it often can be a bit tough as a busy person to find time to make it in with limited hours, and with that I have had instances where I have made it there during the scheduled hours of operation yet I was unable to purchase anything as they had sold out (Not really a complaint just wish I could get donuts lol).

Overall 9.8/10 donuts, only ones I have ever had that would compare came from a place called duck donuts....they seem to not exist in the north Wilmington area let alone anywhere in DE so will continue going to Sleeping Bird!

Maybe suggestion to get to 5 stars: make more donuts. I am sure the cost to make one is not too great and am sure there are plenty of local food pantry organizations / food kitchens that would happily accept any leftovers if they could not...

I don’t believe there are people reviewing this small business without being in the store! I am a client since the coffee shop, had the doughnuts several times and the employees were always nice! Much more than some customers deserve, to be honest. The food and drinks are amazing, and of course they know they should make more doughnuts, but who would guess people would be so rude and hostile about that??? It is a small business, even Dunkin doesn’t have doughnuts all day long. Viral foods and places will always have a line, and in this case they deserve all this success! Their doughnuts are great with fair price!

About the tip, never I felt pressured to tip them. The tip culture is getting out the control everywhere, but don’t discount your feelings about it here since they are not this...

I have been a fan of Sleeping Bird Coffee since their brick & mortar store opened on Miller Road, so I was excited to hear about their doughnut shop opening. The store is clean with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They decorated beautifully - I especially love the custom wallpaper. The doughnuts are fresh and decadent. I like that they rotate flavors every two weeks and that they offer three different styles of doughnut in assorted flavors (filled brioche, brioche rings, and old fashioned). Doughnuts are reasonably priced for the quality and freshness. Staff are friendly, polite, hard-working, and kind.
