We travel all over the world and have our favorite spots everywhere we go. Some are fancy, some are because of the incredible food, some have great views, but the tasty diner is one of my favorites. I’ve been coming here since 2011 as a patient at the NIH. And while I was going through some very hard treatments that continued for more than 13 years, the tasty diner has become a place of nostalgic memories. Their food is great, it is old school and simple but done right. They used to be open all night, so were the only place I could go after treatments, and procedures but they were always friendly and made me feel like I was in a small town diner. The kitchen is right beside the tables and the conversations were always entertaining. I just love this humble place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the high end Bethesda area.

Great local diner. So much character. Great food. We really enjoyed breakfast last time we were here. Alan is at the grill and has old time Sailor Jerry tattoos. A customer was telling Alan that this weekend she was going to Six Flags. Alan said if she goes, she should wear a bulletproof vest. The customer asked Alan if Six Flags was dangerous and Alan pointed to his face and arm, indicating to her, that because she was white it was not safe. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and fries, which was delicious. When I received my food, I shook the ketchup and the lid was not on tight, so I got ketchup all over me. I assumed it was my fault, but afterwards I heard the manager tell Alan to make sure the lids were on tight. When I checked out the manager asked if I was okay and said the ketchup accident happens more than I might think.

Unfortunately, my experience at Tastee Diner was pretty subpar. I love that this place is still thriving after all these years—it’s important to support local businesses with rich histories—but the food was just not the best. I got the waffle with over easy eggs and bacon, as well as a side of grits. The waffle was average and I didn’t like their artificial syrup (6/10). The bacon (8/10) and grits were pretty normal, though I needed a lot of salt for the grits (6/10). Finally, the eggs: the whites weren’t fully cooked! When I took a bite, I got a film of raw egg white. I like my eggs over easy, but these were just a raw and unpleasant experience (2/10). The atmosphere is lived in and exciting, but I wouldn’t come here again for the food.

  • do not ever go to this place* I absolutely wish I could give this place negative stars.

I am all about supporting small businesses and will try to go to a family owned business over a chain any day of the week. Quite frankly, it was a big misstep going to this place as this was LITERALLY the worst breakfast I have ever had.

Started off with the service being "rough" - if you are looking for anything fancy obviously you wouldn't come here so I thought MEH. Then enter the food - French toast was made on wonder style bread.. Ok... My eggs were ordered over medium (I like me some yolk)... Except there was that gooey clear egg membrane everywhere and the eggs were barely cooked. Whatever, I chop them up anyway.. Toast was hard from being left out... Ok thanks for the 10 minute old toast. Working in diners before I know the waitress is responsible for making the toast and sometimes that happens... Except they weren't busy. Then I didn't get my French fries (which were ordered well done). The waitress then comes over and rushingly drops the pie plate (this is a side that you charge $2.50 or possibly $5.00 for??) of fries over. Bit into one - they were raw to the point where they were cold to the touch and I could taste the raw oil on them. There were parts of the fries that clearly had not even been fried. From the looks of it the owner saw the whole situation and did nothing. I hope it was the owner as he was sitting right at the counter pointed out toward our table and rudely watching me eat this terrible food.

Honestly I am almost certain we were also overcharged - though I couldn't even ask about it since the cashier put her hand out and rudely grabbed the check and my fiancés credit card and did not say word one to us.... Probably because a "how was your breakfast?" Wouldn't have boded well for them.

I would not wish this place on my worst enemy. Obviously the only way they're able to stay open is because their drunken clientele must not know better - GROSS/HORRENDOUS SERVICE -...

I stay at a hotel near there quite often for business. On 2 separate occasions Ive tried to eat there and wasnt able to. The 1st time I attempted to call and place my order over the phone so that I could walk over and pick it up when ready. The rudest person ever answered the phone and as soon as I asked to place a to-go order, they promptly hung up the phone on me. I said ok, maybe it was an accident so I called back and again, the person picked up the phone and slammed it back down on me. A 3rd time I called and when the person answered I said " Yes, hello....Ive called twice already to place an order and someone has hung up on me both times" The person said in a very hostile manner, "Obviously that means we dont take phone orders" and hung up on me for a 3rd time. I ended up ordering from a local pizza place. I mean how rude can you be! On a different day I said ok, I'll jus walk over and order to go. The line was out the door and it was freezing this night. Everyone in line was waiting to dine-in so I attempted to go in to place my order to go. A big man with his back to the glass door stopped me and told me to wait in line and wouldnt even open the door. I said "sir I just want to order to go, not dine in". He said nothing further, would not let me open the door to come in and just pointed to the back of the line. It is utterly ridiculous that I should have to wait in a long line of people waiting to dine in just to place a to go order. So again, I left disappointed for a 2nd time. At this point, I have never tasted their food, and I never will. I do not choose to spend my $$ at places that display such horrible hospitality. And you should not waste your time or...

Honestly i havent had a restaurant experience worst that Tastee diner in my life. And unfortunately I’ve been there a couple of time. The food is subpar, service is terrible and the management treats you like you owe them or something.

I went to their bethesda location with a couple of friends once and the server was hispanic lady who was unattentive and not very friendly either. Then the food came out which was okay, but then when we wanted to pay at the register, the cashier who I assume is also a manager of some sort who was an older man wearing a leather motorcycle jacket and leather bracelet was giving us attitude for trying to split our bill.

I didnt learn my lesson there and went to their silver spring location once with one of my friends. The server was a mid aged heavyset gentleman with glasses. He wasnt rude but I assume he was either forgetful or very overwhelmed as it was late at night. He greeted us a few minutes after we sat down and we asked for waters and told him we will be ready to order in one minute. I kid you not, he came back over 15 minutes later. We ordered, and the food took about 7 eternities to come out, at which point we had started eating some jam because we were so hungry. You know when you’re so hungry anything tastes good? Well not this time. I believe i had fish and chips or something like that and the breading on the fish was soggy and it was falling off. My friends eggs were undercooked and his pancake was like leather. We told the manager on the way out and her response was more like sorry, hope you’ll have a better...
