It's easy to miss this place--I wish you could see their beautiful pastries from the window to draw more traffic in, because they deserve it. The coffee here is very well-made, and it's only a skip away from the Starbucks. My latte was so smooth and mellow that it did not even require sweetner. I don't consider myself a macaroon fan, but they were so cute that I had to try a couple: cassis (black current) and salted caramel. Salted caramel was wonderful--slight tang from the salt, and the flavor of the almond paste coming through nutty with the caramel. Bliss. The cassis was dull. Very little fruit flavor, definitely none of that lingering "forest" flavor that makes cassis so wonderful and unique as a fruit. Mostly tasted of butter. I will gladly try other flavors however. I suspect that rosewater and pistachio would both be lovely with the almond batter. They also have variety of other traditional French pastries that will ruin my diet in the future. Edit 7/27/2012: I've now had the chance to try quite a bit from this place, and I must say, I am still impressed. The coffee is excellent about 90% of the time. The other 10% it can be slightly over-roasted. I've tried numerous macarons, since I am now converted to a fan, and my favorites are salted caramel and passionfruit. I've had the occasional misstep here, too--the lighter flavors can be done so softly that the flavor simply disappears into the butter and almond. Similarly, the pastries shine in chocolate and caramel, but the peach one I had was only so-so. I love the chocolate crunchy cake! Hazelnut and pralines and chocolate mousse, oh my! Also, the cupcakes are about a zillion times better than what I've been getting around here--the buttercream is Euro style (lighter, less sweet, not gritty) and the proportion is correct to the cake, which is also fabulous. Also, they very recently started making Pate de Fruits! Heck yeah! The cassis is amazing, but the apple flavor is booooring. I wish they would make apricot or red fruit instead. Are you...
Read moreTout de Sweet Pastry Shop in Bethesda is such a lovely place! It looks like almost like a boutique for pastries and sweet treats.
From the moment you walk in it feels like just the place to indulge your sweet tooth because everything looks beautiful!
I went on the weekend before Valentine’s Day, so that shop was filled with love-themed, beautifully-decorated goodies!
There was a chocolate, heart-shaped piñata that when you break it open was filled with sweet treats. There was also a Valentine’s Day themed tic tac toe sugar cookie with x’s & o’s. It was adorable!
Tout de Sweet also has an array of colorful macarons and pastries and of course lattes, etc.
I opted for a spinach & goat cheese quiche to go. It was scrumptious.
Tout de Sweet is a small nirvana of artisanal pastries and sweet treats, where your eyes and stomach are sure to overrule your brain if you find yourself in a battle of self-control.
The cafe is quaint and comfortable and with lovely ambience.
Since it’s Bethesda, parking can be a little challenging depending on what day of the week and time of day. Generally, you can find street parking fairly easily nearby and there are public parking garages within walking distance.
If you’re in Bethesda and craving a sweet treat, stop by Tout de Sweet...
Read moreNot sure what's going on there but in the last few months the customer service has gotten horrible from the owners as well as from the other staff. I've been in many times and the owners nor the staff are very welcoming. It's seems it's all business. Come give us your money and GO! Their polite but not warm and welcoming; almost phony. Also, the sizes for their small cakes, macaroon ice cream sandwiches, macaroons and crossiants have gotten much smaller but the prices haven't gone down. Went in today and I think it will be my last. It's evident they are trying to get over on their customers and that's NOT okay. If your making smaller items to sell then reduce the price for your items. They are becoming way to hit or miss. Looks great but taste and quality aren't consistent. I visit this place at least once a week. Used to be my favorite Bakery here...
