WE WE'RE REALLY CRAVING GYROS I will start with the part we didn't enjoy, but don't let this sway your decision to try this place.... It gets way better. As we walked up to the establishment and opened the door there were 8 to 10 people crammed into the small confined entrance area. For our comfort, and the others already standing and waiting, we chose to wait outside the door, really not understanding what was happening. Keep in mind, it was the busy lunch hour. When the crowd thinned out some, we ventured in to assess the situation. Turns out the menus are provided in a wall holder for patrons to examine while they wait to order and pay at the single counter cash register at the start of the restaurant. Here you are given a table sign so the staff know where to deliver your order.
While that part was slightly off-putting for us, this is where it gets good. we ordered 2 beef & lamb gyro combos and I decided to treat myself to a red sangria cocktail. The gyros were fantastic! The pita bread was soft, warm and so tasty! They must season it. There was ample meat, fresh red onions, and the tzatziki sauce was on point! If you LOVE tzatziki, as I do, I suggest you ask for extra. I wish my gyro had more. They top the gyros with a few very yummy seasoned fries. I picked mine off, only because the combination was foreign to me. I did eat them of course. They were really good. Our combo came with sweet potato waffle fries, which were fantastic! They give you a garlic aioli dipping sauce that was also great! My red sangria was slightly sweeter than I prefer, but it had a great fresh fruit flavor with fresh apples and pear chunks floating atop. Our food came out quickly, and the gals bussing the tables were quick to spot empty dishes and promptly cleared them away after asking if we were through with them.
The atmosphere was bright and fun! Super colorful stencil painted walls, very utility/industrial style light fixtures that were very cool to look at. Plenty of tables and seating. They have an assortment of board games to choose from and play at your table. The bar seating is somewhat limited. I liked the way it was presented. There was definitely the hum of chattering conversations, but that's to be expected in this type place. Nothing overwhelming by any means.
Ok... Here's the other thing, there is some free street parking. At this busy time we were unable to find a spot. We took a chance and parked in the bank parking lot off to the side and made it out unscathed of a parking ticket, So YAY!
All in all we really enjoyed our meal. Total...

The food was outstanding— I ordered the vegan Doner basket. I was hungry after a long day and it was PERFECT in every way. I love an overflowing bowl piled high with delicious flavors and textures — this did not disappoint. In fact it was even better than expected. And it had so much variety!
I thought the falafel was excellent (I was told they have just changed their recipe, so those who had lack lustre reviews best be coming back!!) They were tender and moist in the center but crispy and golden on the outside. Perfectly seasoned and bright green with herbaceous notes. The fries were also very tasty though they did get a bit soggy under the pile up.
I LOVED all the sauces! I got the tahini dressing but the hummus and tzatziki were also in the mix and you could help yourself to homemade harissa and shug which both had a nice middle eastern kick! The crunch of the roasted chickpeas and the pita strips, the brininess of the Kalamata olives, and the freshness of the salad greens — such a great combination that keeps every bite exciting! And it feels like the right balance of healthy and indulgent. Salad AND fries :)
The soft warm pita bread to sweep around and get all the deliciousness was the final chef’s kiss
I also got a large side Greek salad to take home — which was a meal all its own! And delicious for dinner the next day! That “side” salad is a sleeper good deal!
And the service was also top notch. It was my first time dining here and I had so many questions but they answered every one with enthusiasm. Their beer list is great and has a lot of local selections that are also unique… and they will let you taste before making your final decision :)
I felt such a warm welcome at Spitz, it really felt like a true neighborhood gem. High caliber food but totally unpretentious and down to earth. Nothing fussy, just welcoming and delicious while also managing to have pretty cool vibes — due to the amazing murals and art all over the walls (make sure to pay attention to that!) the excellent...
Read moreA much needed, healthy-based (for the most part) food in a city that is lacking in those options. They have listed gluten free and vegan food on their menu. That's also a very important and much needed thing in Billings!
My biggest complaint is that the last time we had gone in, I ordered the medi bowl (I believe) and specifically said vegan and asked for it gluten free (if needed to be said). I then asked when I ordered a side of waffle fries if there was a good vegan option since the aoili isn't vegan. I was told tzatziki. I told the person behind the counter who was training a new person that Spitz's tzatziki is not vegan, and he said it was. I told him it had dairy, and he said, and I quote: "Yogurt has dairy?"
That same day, when we got our bowl, my vegan medi bowl came with feta on it. I mentioned to him that I'm allergic to dairy and that I had ordered it vegan and he just seemed like he hadn't even thought about it. Of course, I was friendly to him and I did not wish to make a fuss. But I do notice that feta is still listed under some of the vegan options even though it is not vegan...as well as tzatziki. I worry about this, because it will confuse a lot of vegan customers. I really hope this will get taken care of! Especially for those who are allergic to dairy who think there is a vegan...
