Came for a weekday lunch--it was fairly quiet (only one other table was occupied at the time). Previous favorable reviews suggested we should give this a try. Before ordering, we were each given a small bowl of soup, but neither of us could drink it--it was far too salty.
Ordered the "Vegetable Curry" (oddly, the waitress kept asking what kind of meat I wanted with it), and the "Mus sa mun" curry. Our orders arrived after waiting a little longer than expected, but a single bowl of tepid and overcooked rice was delivered before the actual curry dishes--so long, in fact, that I ended up eating most of the rice before the curry arrived. The vegetable curry was nice enough, though it tasted somewhat different from the numerous Thai red curry dishes I've eaten elsewhere. The Mas sa mun curry consisted of a fairly nice sauce (again, not the same taste or 'creaminess' we'd anticipated), and even though we did notice in the menu that the potatoes would be fried, the dish was kinda strange, and not in a good way. The potatoes were like very thick wavy chips that had gone soggy--like the kind of sliced potatoes one might use for a beef 'hotpot' dish.
Overall: disappointing food, and...
Read moreThis was a nice surprise. A friend and I randomly picked this place for lunch and it was good. The food is a little spicier than other Thai places I’ve been to. I like a little bit of kick but mild usually isn’t enough so I order “medium” spice. It was what I actually would think of as medium spice. I ordered the potato curry with chicken and it was well prepared. Portion size was as expected and i took some home. This is the first Thai place I’ve been to that has a basket of something for you to munch on while you wait for your food. It’s these chip shaped things that look like styrofoam. They really didn’t have much flavor so likely some puffed rice thing. They also brought a nice hot cup of soup out after ordering. The staff was friendly, the food was brought quickly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. My two disappointments were that I had to ask for my water to be refilled and because it is downtown Birmingham parking isn’t the greatest. It is super close to a parking structure that is free for the first 2 hours though. I would definitely go...
Read moreThis is by far the worst thai food place ive ever had the displeasure of eating at. the atmosphere and customer service were decent which led me to believe that it would be good. I was so wrong...
I ordered potato curry. It came with soggy, crudely sliced potatos with a milk thin curry sauce. The soup was essentially coconut milk with a heap of lime in it. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to put entire tomato spheres into it; they predicatbly absorbed none of the flavor, although that turned out to be for the best given the deafening acidic taste of the soup. Both dishes had tofu which was the consistency of rubber...with less flavor
The culmination of this meal leads me to conclude that this restaurant is not authentic. It's instead a bad attempt to replicate thai food. Please go to delicious thai on maple road or bangkok cuisine in troy if you're interested in actually good thai food for...
