Such a fun spot. Great selection of retro and modern arcade games. The tokens are very affordable (and you get A LOT of them). On Sundays you get a six pack and a bag of 80 tokens for $30. Def a great a deal and something I always take advantage of.

Im a HUGE pinball fan. Been playing since I was a little kid. And Up Down has a great selection of pinball machines to pick from. Most of them are modern Stern machines, which allow you to track progress and earn achievements while you use them. Very cool. Sometimes I pop in alone just to hang out and play pinball.

Just a heads up to you folks who work at Up Down, your right paddle button on the Scooby Doo pinball machine is sticking, which leads to sunk balls that you cant catch/stop.

The pizza is ok. Most definitely a cut above typical arcade pizza, but not the best around (to be fair I am picky about pizza). If pizza is not your thing, Good People Brewing right next door has a killer food truck.

The drink selection is pretty decent. A good selection of beer/seltzers and spirits. Cocktails are decent enough for the price. Sticking with canned bevs is my go to.

I saw people complaining about cocktails/food… And nothing against anyone making drinks/food at Up Down (ya’ll do a great job), but if you show up to an ARCADE expecting crazy craft cocktails and gourmet food, you’re an imbecile.

Overall, great spot. Must visit if you’re a local.

WARNING Parking can be a nightmare if you want free street parking on weekends. Lots of events always going on nearby and it can be an absolute...

It shouldn’t take one hour to get a slice of pizza in a restaurant with nobody in it. Our group of 7 ordered about 10 slices of pizza and most of us had our order in 2-3 minutes. We were told three of the slices would take ten minutes. No problem. After 20 minutes we were told that one of the pizzas was not made correctly and to wait another 20 minutes. Forty minutes after ordering, two of the three slices are ready and a manager looking dude said he’d bring the remaining slice right out. At the one hour mark, still missing one slice, so back to the window again where the missing slice is just sitting there withering away. No real apology or explanation why in a well staffed, basically empty bar, one piece could take an hour. Worth the wait? It’s somewhere between mall food court and convenience store pizza. It’s good drunk food but certainly not anything to attract a crowd especially with Tortugas next door.

The other bone I had was scanning the front and back of every ID at the door. Confirming age is being a responsible vendor. Collecting the name and address of your customers is huge red flag and should give anyone pause. My 85 year old mother in law had to show id and get stamped to order lunch. When she asked the doorman why, he told her “so we can count how many are in here.” Scanning IDs and stamping senior citizens helps you count? Okay…

The bartenders were great and the overall vibe is fantastic for anyone who grew up with arcade classics. Plan to eat elsewhere because their food game needs...

Enjoyed my first experience at Up Down yesterday. I really liked it! We took advantage of the Sunday special, which offered 6 drinks, 80 tokens and a fanny pack. Great deal! The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. It was not overly crowded, which was great for us as guests. We did not partake in the pizza, as we decided to hit Hotbox next door at Good People. I am concerned about the longevity of this establishment. We visited before the Matt Rife show, so a pretty big show in town and there was a Baron’s game going on too. The concept is great! The service is fantastic! I couldn’t help but notice that MANY of the patrons were not actually spending money. Example, the area with the couches and the video game console…. The same group of people were there for the two hours we visited and were drinking water. Most of the people there were drinking water. I feel like the prices may be too good and thus, not attracting patrons ready to spend a little money to have a good time. Maybe start requiring either a drink minimum or charge a cover? I hope I am wrong and maybe yesterday was an off day because I did truly enjoy my time here and hope to...

We had a awesome time during our visit. We went on a Saturday evening so it was busy, but we never had to wait to play a game as long as we rotated around the games. It's usually $0.25 per token but they had a deal going on with $5 for 40 tokens until 9pm. We ended up spending 80 tokens and were there for about 3-4 hours. We did not end up getting any food, but their menu consists of pizza and cheese sticks. The drink prices were decent, $4-$8 for pints of beer and $10 for cocktail specials. The staff and bartenders were great. Outside, they have a really cool beer garden with different yard games such as Giant Connect 4 and Cornhole boards. Inside, they have dozens of classic arcade cabinets, as well as Pinball and Skee-Ball. Also, two different game consoles setups, a GameCube with Super Smash Brothers Melee and a N64 with Mario Kart 64. Both support up to four players do not cost any tokens, as long as your willing to wait to play your turn. Overall, I had a really great experience

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – A True '90s Kid Time Capsule Up-Down in Birmingham really encapsulates the spirit of the ’90s and early 2000s. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I had stepped into a childhood memory—with arcade games everywhere, vintage WWF matches playing on the screens, and a vibe that hits deep if you grew up in that era. What stood out most to me were the details: the walls filled with creative collage-style artwork featuring legends like Tupac and Prince—two iconic Geminis whose presence set the tone for the spot. Even the music and visuals felt intentional, giving you something to look at, listen to, and feel all at once. Customer service was friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience smooth and inviting. Whether you're reliving your youth or introducing someone new to it, this place makes for a perfect date spot or hangout if you’re a ’90s kid at heart. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Birmingham and want a night full of fun, nostalgia, and good energy.

Love this place so much! Drinks were tasty, games were so fun and cheap, 25 cents per game! The atmosphere was super casual and fun, and they have a wide variety of games: DDR, Game Boy Smash on a projector screen, classic arcade games, etc. We ordered a whole pizza and it came with 12 slices and was super delicious, and they also do 50% off the pizza at certain times of night! Also went for a birthday and got 40 tokens for free! All the staff are friendly, I’m so glad this place opened up!
