Yo' Mama's — Restaurant in Birmingham

Do you need some sweetness in your life? Some crispness to your thought processes? Warmth down in the pit of your soul? Then you need the chicken and waffles with peaches at Yo Mama’s! This is the type of place where the food is so good, I got sad because I knew that I didn’t even deserve to partake in such bounty! They make food for Kings in there! For royalty! And me I’m such just a simple commoner but you know what I’ll take it.

The waffles were FLUFFY and came with a beautiful house made syrup, full of delicious buttery brown sugar. The wings were THICK AND CRISPY and even though they were fried they weren’t greasy or heavy on the palette. They were light and ethereal, like a dream! Like a dream of that long lost first kiss! That first kiss of delicious chicken!

Okay I’m getting a little carried away now.

I got the WARM PEACHES with my waffles. I think sometimes we forget just what a little heat and chemistry can do to fruit! All the delicious sugars came to the surface, the warmth and sweetness filling me with a palpable sense of comfort.

The coffee is strong, the service attentive, impeccable and gracious. This is a premier dining experience, and when you leave you’ll be thinking of what you can do for the rest of your life to prove yourself...

The building is not very large but the ceilings are high. The brick walls give the place a trendy urban feeling. The tables are first order first seated and served. We had a little wait but not long. The atmosphere was nice the service was quick and pleasant. We ordered Chicken and Waffles with the fruit topping. I also ordered cheese grits. (Give it up for the South. Woo!Woo!) The food was delicious! The wings were crispy and the waffles were light and fluffy the strawberries and blueberries with home made cream on top of the waffles were 👍! I never put fruit on my waffles. My husband talked me into that and I'm glad. They bring your syrup in a container with a top on it and it's hot. The grits had the cheese melted into it. The food was seasoned well but not salty. I enjoyed ir and would recommend it. I forgot to take pictures before I started eating. The prices aren't expensive. The chicken and waffles were $10.95 the fruit topping was $1.50 extra. The cheese grits were $2.95. We drank water which is free but they have lemonade and other drinks. I was just traveling through Birmingham and had to stop here to try the food. I am gluten-intolerant and hardly get to enjoy fried food. I had the chicken and waffles at the restaurant and ordered the fried chicken plate and the fried catfish with coleslaw to go.

The chicken and waffles were absolutely delicious. Every bite. The chicken was flavorful and crispy, the warm peaches on the waffle. Even the sauces were delicious. They had an in-house made syrup for the waffles that was incredible. I usually don't like mustard but decided to try their in-house made honey mustard and I loved it so much I was wiping the container for every drop.

When I arrived back in Florida, I tried the fried catfish and chicken wings. Unbelievably delicious. All gluten free. For anyone, gluten-intolerant or not, this food is absolutely delicious.

Also! Service was so quick and the staff were so helpful and accommodating -- asking about dietary restrictions and making modifications when needed.
