University Tacos on 5th Ave — Restaurant in Birmingham

This place would be clutch if there was consistency. I love the location and the atmosphere. It’s adjacent to my office building making it a convenient stop when I’m working at the office. The food is always flavorful but I have yet to get what I’ve ordered. Each time I visit, I order the single shrimp quesadilla no pico, no sour cream with a side of queso. I have dietary restrictions so I try not to add extra sauces, I ask for them on the side. The first visit, I received a chicken quesadilla with everything on it. I spent my lunch removing the things I could not eat. I figured they were real busy, it’s easy to overlook so I went a second time. This time the quesadilla was right but no queso. I chalked it up to a sign from God that I didn’t need the extra cheese😂. The last time I went (today), I get back to my office and the sauces were on the side and I think they finally got it right… until I picked it up and pico falls out🥴. It’s all through my quesadilla so I am again forced to spend half my lunch trying to make it edible.

I would have taken them back but my work days are jammed packed with just enough time to pick up lunch. I’m usually eating it during a meeting or training or whatever is on my calendar. I really like this place and the food is good but I can’t keep going if I can’t get what I ordered...

I went to college in Texas. Spend lots of time each year in NM. Pretty picky about Mexican food. This place rocks. Simple. Inexpensive. Small things. Great salsa. Fresh limes on street tacos. Soft corn tortillas. Fresh onion. Fish tacos grilled. Ate here 2 days in a row...

My son and I were going to Prevail Coffee (get the Alabama stinger) and ended up parking near here. So we stopped in and got the Roberts’s burrito (steak and chorizo) and the Miya’s con huevo bowl. Yalllllll e are happy with being forced to park further...
