Pros: Prompt service, friendly staff, server was attentive and checked in appropriately, dishes cleared right away, bill given right away and processed quickly. Clean environment, nice lighting. Music was different, acceptable. Comfortable place.
Cons: Ordered the hibachi chicken for lunch, which comes with rice, noodles, veggies and chicken, and onion soup. I inquired what the vegetables are with the meal. The server didn't know, but offered to find out. I declined. The lunch special came with onion soup, which was delivered promptly after I ordered. Upon it being set on the table I could smell that it was a highly processed flavored water. It reminded of the soup seasoning packets I experienced as a kid. Taste was that of a flavoring packet with plenty of MSG. There were 3 slices of mushroom floating in the soup as well as 3 chunks of 'onion' in the bottom. The onions were like the breaded French's fried onions that one sees on their green been casserole. Admittedly, I never order onion soup at a restaurant so maybe this is normal, but I was really expecting something that appeared more homemade/fresh.
The server brought over 2 sauces before my food arrived. She pointed to each and said this one is for the rice and this one for the noodles. Ok, fine enough. When she returned with the food, I asked what the sauces are, and she replied that she didn't know the ingredients, just that one was ginger and the other shrimp (?). I'm not certain if she said shrimp. Personally I prefer someone to name the mystery sauces when they are placed on the table, especially since it isn't mentioned on the menu. As for the food itself, the veggies in the hibachi ended up being 1 small piece of broccoli, a lot of yellow zucchini, onions, a few small strips of carrot and a peapod. I was quite disappointed in the lack of variety and green veggies. Most disappointing though, was the chicken. It was obviously a chicken patty that had been cut up. Not a fresh or once frozen piece of chicken breast, but a formed patty that was uniform thickness with formed edges. Yuck. The noodles were cooked fine. I upgraded to the fried rice - it was okay. The overall flavors of the various entree items were acceptable - nothing to rave or complain about. There was reduced sodium soy sauce on each table (blech) and I would have appreciated normal soy sauce along with some chili pepper/sauce and extra napkins on the table.
To drink I tried the water, and I could smell the water before I tasted it, so it was obviously not filtered and I drank very little of it.
Shortly after leaving, I had a slight headache - another indication of MSG laden food. Maybe the sushi is their strength. I gave it a shot, but there was too much disappointment in my experience for me to return.
Also the menu could use pictures and detailed...
ย ย ย Read moreUpdate: wow, I was harassed by a misono employee AFTER LEAVING, at Applebee's next door.
I've been going to misono since they opened years ago and have always been impressed but now I'm completely disgusted. I showed up with my fiance on a Wednesday for our 3 year anniversary at 9:00, they close at 10. We were dressed nicely and hoping to order the love boat (large sushi platter) and wine however the hostess was so incredibly rude she refused to sit is in the dining room area. She told us that the waitress in the dining room was too busy and that we had to sit in the bar area despite the fact that there were only a couple occupied tables. We sat and decided to order an appetizer then leave. I told our waitress in the area we were seated that I was very disappointed and that we would go to Applebee's for our anniversary since misono was apparently too busy to serve us. Meanwhile the original hostess came over and started to hug and kiss a guy at the bar (I'm assuming it was her boyfriend?) So unprofessional and disgusting from the lady who basically was refusing us service. I'm so frustrated. Updated my fiance and I went to Applebee's after our terrible experience at misono and what do you know, another woman from misono came TO OUR TABLE, AT APPLEBEE'S, TO HARASS US (a third woman who I didn't even notice at Misono, so not our hostess and not the waitress I complained to). The woman came over to our table and said that she had heard it was our anniversary and condescendingly asked us how long we've been together. I said "what, how do you know that?" Then she mentioned that she was an employee of misono and that she hoped we would come to get the "love boat" sometime (which is the sushi platter that my fiance and I originally went to misono to get) then again on our way out she stopped us to mess with us a little more as we were leaving.
These Misono employees shouldn't be employed. They are horrible staff to have on board at a restaurant. In the end the obvious issue was showing up to eat at 9:00. If Misono wants to be closed at 9 or 9:30 then change your hours. If you're open until 10 then your hostesses should be prepared to offer service to customers rather than treat them like garbage. It's completely wrong to be hanging out with your boyfriend when you're being paid to work. It's completely unprofessional to mock customers that left at another restaurant. The whole thing is really messed up. I'll never go back to support...
ย ย ย Read moreWent here with a friend awhile ago, shortly after it first opened. When we first sat down, we could smell the fresh finish of the walls and tables, it made me slightly dizzy, but I anticipate that smell is gone by now.
I ordered Hibachi lunch- Steak and fried rice, while my friend ordered Sushi. Traditional to all the other Hibachi places around, they give you onion soup for lunch. It tasted almost exactly like Osaka's soup, and shares the same trait of not giving much onion or mushroom. Again, the shared attributes of all hibachi places these days, they give you a shrimp sauce and a ginger sauce. These sauces are for some reason guarded secrets among the hibachi chains, which is unnerving, but I found out from another place that I frequent that the "shrimp" sauce contains a mixture of ketchup, mayo, and some other ingredients that I don't recall. My fried rice was very bland and disappointing compared to all the other restaurants I've had. The Shrimp was average, but the quantity was lacking. The veges that Hibachi meals expect are about what you'd expect; onion, zuchini, mushroom, and carrot. My fried claimed the sushi was very good, but I was disappointed.
Trusting my friend's feedback, go here and try it if you like sushi. If you like Hibachi, I'd suggest you try Kintaro instead, which is located 5 minutes away on 109th...
