Me and my son came here for the first time on Christmas night for the hibachi experience. The show was fun and the food tasted ok but we both had nausea stomach cramps and bad diarrhea within hours of eating here. At first I thought it was the raw squid I ate but my son had steak and lobster both cooked and he got sick too. I don’t know if it was just us but there were 6 other guests eating from the same grill so I hope they didn’t feel ill. The raw food sat on a tray by the hot grill for 20 minutes before the chef started cooking it, not sure if that let bacteria grow in that short a time but anything is possible. The service was a little slow but the staff was friendly and the chef did a good job entertaining us some of the other guests were surprised when he started chuckling raw veggies for us to catch in our mouth but it was an enjoyable night despite spending the rest of the night and half the next day on the toilet. I honestly think I’ll give them another chance the upset stomach was probably a fluke occurrence I don’t see other reviews complaining about it. Maybe next time they will get a higher rating but 3 stars is the best I can give them after an upset stomach for...

Update: Because of the last comment I saw here, I went and checked the receipt I paid for my pick up today. And they charged a gratuity fee. My husband already tipped when he put the order online, hence why I didn't tip anything when I picked up. We didn't't realize there was a gratuity fee included. My question is: what did we tip for? We already paid for the food (very delicious), it wasn't served for us because I myself picked it up, so what is the gratuity for? I need answers as I am fuming. I am so disappointed.

We've not noticed before, it must be new. We won't stop eating or picking up from there, but we will definitely not tip anymore.

Be mindful and check your receipts everyone.

Kobe's is most definitely our favorite place in Blo/No so far. We treat ourselves to hibachi or their amazingly good sushi every once and again. Today for lunch, we for sushi and again, it is so amazing. Whether we go in to sit and eat or just pick up, they never seize to amaze us. Food is amazing, service is great, if you go in for pick up food will be ready before you get there and you are treated greatly if you have to wait a bit. We love Kobe's and highly recommend it to anyone...

In several ways the wait is quite long here. As long as you are not pressed for time, it's just fine. Otherwise, do not expect speed in seating (all members of a group must be physically there before the group will be seated) or in preparation. Ordering does not take long, assuming you understand the basics of how it works here, but you will be sitting a while before the chef returns with the cart of ingredients.

If it's your first time coming, come with a friend who has already been to Kobe. That's the easiest tip for enjoying yourself.

The food itself is decent. It's flavorful and prepared immediately before you, and served to each individual as it is ready. Lots of rice and noodles, some veg but not a lot (and it would benefit from extra vegetables), with a fair portion of meat (enough and not too much).

Your enjoyment will largely be determined by your comfort levels and the personality of the chef...and the friends you bring.

We shared a table with another small group and there were mix-ups with the checks. It got straightened up just fine, but even that adds time to your meal (if time is a factor).

Glad we went. It was so-so for us. We will ...

We've been coming here for years, for all celebrations and we love this place. However, I'm a server and I'm very put off by the experience we had tonight. We were charged a gratuity charge on our bill and were not notified and then asked to tip more with a note that said additional tip would be split with the cooks. I asked if the included gratuity charge went towards the server and they responded with "not really" the cooks get "most of it" and anything additional tipped would then go to the server... so we were charged $30 in included gratuity on our $170 bill... not notified... bill was $220...my dad paid, then expected to tip another 20% on top of that. The staff ended up with a $70 tip because they told us that the included gratuity would not go toward the server and we did not want to leave the server with no tip. We're very discouraged and our family will likely not return.

I have been here twice already. I go to Bloomington for work around once a week. On one of those days decided to go to Japanese place craving for sushi. Ended with bento box and appetizers I could not even eat at one time. I used to live in San Francisco with all of it's amazing restaurants and very developed Asian culture. Was kind of sceptic what kind of Japanese food is going to be cooked for me in the middle of Illinois. I was surprised in a good way. Crab wontons we're crispy and creamy, miracle salad dressing (mayonnaise, carrot, ginger and ... something else) turned regular salad leaves into delicious dish. Beef was medium fried and juicy. Rice wrap on my sushi was very thin and I could clearly feel avocado taste. Liked this place. It is not fancy, pretty affordable, good restaurant to go with your friends for grilled seafood. Will be coming back.

God would eat hibachi here. There's nothing I love more food wise, than an entertaining hibachi adventure. The chef was hilarious, was alot more entertaining and loosened up than many, and certainly tried very hard to get us all laughing and watching intently as he made our food. The fireball was intense, the mini volcano was pretty cool, and the show was just comical and just a purely wonderful show. It's so clean here. And everyone is practicing the highest standard of Covid safety. Get the chicken and steak if you want a wonderful and less expensive option, but get the lobster and scallops if you want a blissful and more expensive option. MAKE SURE you get the YUM YUM SAUCE!
