The last time we came here my roommate asked about a $3 charge for chips and salsa because the previous time he came here he wasn't charged for it. The waiter seemed offended by this inquiry and started going off on him. He then slapped $3 on the table, saying that he would give the money back personally because we shouldn't see it as a big deal. My roommate was polite the whole time and not aggressive at all, so this sudden outburst was definitely uncalled for. The waiter then brought the manager, who kept asking over and over again for the name of the waiter who gave him the free chips, as if we were supposed to keep track of their names when we couldn't even remember the name of our waiter for that day. The waiter then stormed off, telling my roommate, in front of his boss, that "People like you don't tip anyway." I think it's important to note that my roommate is Indian American, and the "People like you" comment did not sit well with any of us. He could've just meant stingy people, but that phrasing left us wondering if he was actually being discriminatory toward my friend. Also, the assumption that my friend wouldn't have tipped was totally false, as he tips just as much as anyone else, and would've tipped if the waiter had simply told us that the previous waiter must have made a mistake without blowing up at us like he did. We left wondering how the manager could possibly keep this business going with how he handled the situation. Not to mention that my roommate left severely depressed for the rest of the night because he had never been reprimanded so harshly in public over...
Read moreThe atmosphere is the only things you're paying for in this establishment. An establishment like this should have food to match the very modern-Latino style cantina it is presenting to its customers.
Upon arrival, I requested queso for the table. The queso was average at best; nothing to write a raving review over. Much to my chagrin, the price of the queso was as much as I paid for my tacos, and quesadillas.
The food was pretentious and nothing blended well together with the meal. The Al Pastor Street Tacos, aside from being overpriced, were not good. The salsa that was on the tacos completely, and obnoxiously, overwhelmed the tacos with an unreasonable heat that made the tacos unenjoyable; so much that the other person dining with me was turned away from eating the rest of their meal due to the overpowering heat from the salsa.
The service I received was subpar due to the fact that we had to wait 10 minute for our waitress to finally take our order, she was hardly present during the dining experience, and while we were waiting for our check she was over in eye view counting her tips. We had to receive assistance from another waitress before our waitress looked up and finally came over to ask if we wanted our check. It would have been understandable if the Cantina was busy, but the place was almost empty when we arrived and when we left.
I had heard great things about this restaurant prior to this evening, but it did not live up to ANY of the hype surrounding it. I will not be returning.
If I am craving street tacos again, I will be going to Pili's...
Read moreGreat Mexican place in downtown Bloomington. Family had dinner here when dropping off our freshman. Great ambiance and vibe! Food too was pretty decent. But unfortunately, they were short-staffed and we had a newbie (literally day 1) server - who was totally untrained and completely unfamiliar with the menu (or Mexican food in general e.g. she had no idea what a cheese enchilada was!?!). SO that really impacted our overall experience. Also we had a vegetarian in our group (and since the server was unable to help) the "manager" stopped by and recommended some dishes - but unfortunately the order came out wrong - so they had to take it back, and they brought it out late after others on the table had almost finished eating - that too was a bummer! Last nail in the coffin, we ordered a second round of drinks which never came.... but guess what...it was included in the check (!), so now we had to waste even more time correcting the bill, etc. So really not a good first experience and not sure if I would recommend. It might be hard but I may be up to try this place again since the vibe and food were decent - but I'm really, really hoping (for their sake) that the management takes control of their service and better hires/trains...
