I had an absolutely ridiculous experience with Amrit India. I ordered two dishes, butter chicken and chicken tikka masala through Grubhub. The food came late, and when it arrived we received a single container of rice and a ridiculous amount of chicken in both dishes. Think about a Philadelphia cream cheese size for each of the chicken dishes, for which we paid full price. I called the restaurant and started explained the situation to what seemed to be the manager. The manager told me that it was not their fault, it was the driver's fault, barely listening to me. I explained again the situation and then the manager answered the the order must have been switched by the driver. Again I told her that it was unlikely because we received the actual order we requested but with portions that were half the size of the usual ones. Then the manager said that we live too far from the restaurant as if that would explain the issue, again refusing to accept responsibility. I told her that this was not a valid justification and, if we live too far from them, they should not have accepted the order. I was admittedly impatient with the situation because I never saw anyone completely evade responsibility like that. She told me to lower my voice and I took a deep breath and started speaking with her again. She refused to let me speak with her saying that I was being rude. I told her that I did not want to speak with her since she was not listening to me and disconnected.
Then someone from the restaurant called us back and spoke with my wife saying that I had cussed at her manager which is a COMPLETE LIE. They said that there was a mistake and someone had received our order while we received theirs. My wife asked her what the switched order was and the second caller said it was chicken Biryani. My wife repeated the same explanation indicating that we did not receive anyone else's order and certainly no chicken Biryani. We simply had received half the portion than what we had received in the past. The second caller kept complaining about how I had raised my voice in the previous call and saying that many people call them every week to complain and they are rude. To what I said, no wonder, since they make egregious mistakes and do not take any responsibility.
I am not proud of having raised my voice but I have rarely been so frustrated with anyone refusing to accept responsibility for their mistake and blaming others (or, apparently, geography in general). In their defense, the second caller offered to give us our full portions if we drove to the restaurant with our receipt. We appreciate that but it was too little to late, especially after the manager attempted to deflect the blame (not to mentioned that it defeats the whole idea of food delivery).
I am looking forward to the restaurant responding to this review and trying to accuse me of being unreasonable, perhaps indicating that everything was my fault and that I was being rude. Again, apologies for raising my voice but perhaps having a better trained kitchen staff that does not use the wrong containers for the delivery orders, and a better manager that does not keep blaming others and refusing to listen would go a long way in fixing their problem with callers.
I guess I will never know if they will ever fix their problems since I will never order food from...
Read moreUber driver here. This place lies to you all the time about how long your order is going to take to be ready. Went in about 10 minutes after I accepted the order, when I got there the guy said it would be only a few minutes. 10 minutes later I ask how much longer it’s going to be and the same guy went back in the kitchen, then came back and asked to look at my phone for the order. I then asked if the order as even been started and he said no, and it would be at least another 10 minutes. So he lied to me, he didn’t know if or even when it was going to be ready. Ridiculous. This has happened here many times, but enough is enough. This place is horrible to pick up delivery orders from. RESPONSE TO AMRIT Did you even read my review? I know I don’t have to wait for an order and can go onto another one. So your response has nothing to do with my complaint. My issue is about you lying about how much time it’s going to take. Don’t tell me a few minutes, then 10 minutes later tell me you haven’t even started the order. Just say, “I’m not sure how long it will be.” I would’ve have cancelled the order if you had given me an accurate time, but you lied, and wasted 15 or 20 minutes of my time. Time is money for delivery drivers, not sure you understand that. And you’ve done this many times in the past. If you can’t see why you’re in the wrong, then you’ve got bigger problems. And no apology from you guys, when I was there or on here, like it’s my fault. Ridiculous. That should tell everyone how you feel about...
Read moreMy wife and I were in Bloomington on Saturday evening and had a hankering for Indian food. Our first choice (Tandoor & Tikka) was closed due to COVID-19 and our second was no longer in business, so we landed at Amrit India at 6th & Walnut on the square.
First the positive: Prices were OK -- we paid about $26 for the vegetarian appetizer platter ($7.99), one "entrée" (as we Americans oddly call the main course) -- lamb & shrimp curry for $12.99, one Kashmiri naan ($3.99), and one sweet lassi.
The food was OK, though certainly not memorable.
Now for the negative: The waiter was surly and inattentive, and barely spoke English. Once we got our food, he never came back -- not even to bring us the bill!
Throughout our hour-long visit, the "music" was a monotonous recording of a man chanting some lugubrious song, almost funereal in nature. My wife, who is seldom bothered by anything, got so fed up with this mournful "music" that she flagged our elusive waiter down and asked him to turn down the volume. He seemed to understand -- who knows? -- but nothing happened. We couldn't wait to pay and leave, though as mentioned, getting the bill was also a problem.
To sum up: prices were OK food was so-so waiter was one of the worst I've had (in the US) in decades of dining music was certainly the worst ever
Bloomington has other, much better Indian restaurants, to which we will take our business...
