Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Blue Springs

Decided to give Abelardo's a try on their opening day, the lobby was clean but bland...nothing exciting. The staff was very friendly and polite, pricing was fair and as a bonus we discovered they gave us 50% off for being a customer on opening day. The food portions were larger than expected and everything we ordered was fantastic. The burritos (pictured) were beef and seasoned terrifically, not too much but enough it was really good. The burritos were quite a bit larger than expected, I was only able to eat 3/4 of one. The apple filled churros for desert were delicious! A couple of suggestions though, ditch the cheap plastic forks/spoons/knives and opt for metal silverware, better cups than 'solo' cups would suit this place better. The 'clean up' is confusing, I suspect you could just dine and leave your dirty plates on the table, we opted to scrape the leftovers (that we didn't put into a togo box) into the trash and stacked the plates/trays there. First try... I said I will get a quesadilla to be on the safe side. I got the one with shrimp and chicken. I asked before I ordered if there were onion in it, she said just shrimp and chicken. I get home, not only there was onion, but it was greasy as all get out. Grease from the steak was sitting in between the slices and collecting at the bottom of the container. There was hardly any cheese holding it together. I put it in the air fryer to try to dry up the grease and harden the shell some, and that didn't help. I was pretty disappointed because the taste was decent, but having to take a napkin to dab off the grease and it was falling apart when eating was very irritating. I'm not sure if I'm gonna go back. This is one of the worst places I've eaten. The tortillas were rubbery, the kids (toddlers 2 and 1 year old) chicken nuggets were nasty at best. The carnitas tasted bland, the ground beef was reminiscent of dog food, and just all around it was a terrible experience. Very bummed and we paid over $45 for 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals. They do have a salsa bar, BUT the chips are prepackaged and in a nacho warmer in paper baskets smaller than the palm of my hand (I am 5'1"), they were dried out, burned, and just the epitome of they dont give a crap. This was over priced for how gross and disappointingand disgusting it was. PS. The bathrooms were also beyond dirty with excrement...
