We have done take out, also.
I am from South Central Texas. Was born and lived there for 20 years. I lived on a ranch where I figure I have eaten 4 or 5 Bar-B-Qued / smoked cows, pigs, and a whole family of chickens and turkeys.
There is more to cooking the two ways when cooking meat. There is smoked Brisket, Chicken and Pork and then there is Bar-B-Qued Brisket, Chicken and Pork among other meats like Deer, Wild Turkey, etc.
Smoked is just heat and smoke from a variety of different woods. Everyone usually has their favorite smoke flavors. It really does make a difference.
Bar-B-Qued has heat and bar-B-que - the sauce. If you like sauce, this one is for you. Not for me.
Because the Bar-B-Qued is usually dripping with sauce the establishment usually supplies big napkins.
So knowing the differences, I rated Jim 'N Nicks like I rate everything. For this I rated everything according to the 3 items they offered.
Foods: I expected to get meat, potato salad, bar-B-qued beans, and possibly cole slaw with iced sweet tea.
For the Services section, I went with the kitchen folks and the servers. I didn't see much of the kitchen folks but, the servers were exceptional!
I thought the atmosphere was a littrle loud. I like to be able to talk with the folks that come with us and be able to hear them.
We have been to Jim 'N Nicks 3 or 4 times by now, both take out and dine in. We went to take out for two reasons, the level of noise and the choices (and prices of sides). On the prices, I couldn't believe how long the establishment had been there. We paid around $35 per person with only a few of the expected sides. So when we went to take-out, we only bought meat and maybe one side, only.
I hope I havent been overly critical. Jim 'N Nicks is a fine establishment with only a fwew flaws for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow I had the best experience here. Started with an awesome server. Service like that will always bring customer back for more. Tiffany was my waitress. Everybody question is what's the best thing to order. So I ask her. And her reply was everything. I ask what her favorite was she reply "Beef Brisket". Well I end up ordering half order of baby back ribs with mac n cheese n bake potato. And I also order 2lbs of spare ribs with bake beans n potato salad. With there lemonade to drink. My first sip was like WOW...... you really need to make it taste so good. I hate š”n love šyou guys at the same time. How am I going to drink lemonade again after I tasted perfection. They also give you some complementary yellow muffin. I'm so glad I came by myself. I don't think I could of shared them with anybody. Within 5 mins food was at my table. I felt like it took longer to decided what I wanted then getting the food. Everything I had was fantastic. I only have one regret. I should of order "Beef Brisket" as well. I'm going to be thinking about this the whole ride back to key west fl. And no I didn't eat all that food. I took it home n I'm not sharing Lol. š¤£š¤£š¤£
So let's recap
Go by yourself so you don't have to share yellow muffins. Order every item on the menu so you don't regret not get that item you wasn't sure about. Stay away from the lemonade. Your life won't be the same after drinking it.
Words really can't do this place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe wife and I stopped in because we wanted BBQ, I recommended a mom & pop place, my wife said she didn't want to waste the time to find one. So we stopped here. Well here it is. I'm sure at sometime in the past Jim & Nicks were on top of their game. I'm a senior citizen and over my lifetime I have witnessed many places grow and not make it because they change what is important. My wife had the brisket chili, her 1st words were it tastes like a can. I had the combo plate, pulled pork, pulled NC pork & brisket with Mac and cheese & potato salad. The first thing I saw was quantity for the price. At a mom & pop for $25 I would have more than enough. Nothing on my plate wowed me. The pork was good the brisket was 1 step away from being jerky, the potato salad was just eehh, it needed pepper and there wasn't any on any of the tables. Mac & cheese was ok. My biggest gripe is the put sauce on the meat. I am a firm believer if the BBQ is good you don't need sauce. Let me choose! I didn't care for there sauces, but I can see how others would. The things that were great about this place were The staff was extremely friendly and professional. No wait time. (Maybe this was a sign we should have skipped this place) Over 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. ( See number 2)
I guess the quest for the perfect BBQ continues.
Jim & Nick, go back to the basics, go back to why you were able to grow. Listen to...
