I had never been to or heard of this place before my recent visit to this location. My family of four (including two kids) met up with a group of friends at a table inside. My first impression was that that the location was really nice, and the ambiance was great.
Our waiter, Marcello, came by to take our drink order. I asked him for a drink menu and he told me there was no drink menu and that there was an open bar. I asked him if the restaurant had a specialty cocktail, and he looked so annoyed with me and repeated that there was an open bar. I ordered a mojito, which was the only highlight of our experience in this location.
I asked the waiter for a high chair, and it took forever to get one. I asked him if there was a children’s menu, and he said there was not BUT that any dish could be ordered at half portion (more on this later). He didn’t serve our children water or offer any beverages. We had to share our glasses with them most of the night. He came to take our orders and was very pushy on the specials. He came one by one to take the orders. I told him that I wanted the half portion of the vodka pasta with the prosciutto and mushrooms for my kids. He basically told me that that dish wouldn’t be great for my kids because it has prosciutto and mushrooms. I told him I was fine with this and that my husband would eat the prosciutto and the mushrooms. He told me that they would make a penne with a “delicious pink sauce”, which I was very annoyed with. It is NOT what I wanted for my kids. He totally skipped me when taking my order, which I was annoyed with. It’s like he did it on purpose. I tried to order my own food right after explaining what I wanted for my kids and he held up a hand as if to say “it’s not your turn.” He was collecting everyone’s menu, and I had to tell him “wait, you didn’t take my order.” I attempted once again to correct my kids’ order right after placing my order, and he once again insisted that they would make a “delicious pink sauce”.
He seemed a bit upset when my family didn’t order any apps.
He did not come at any time to refill our cups or ask if we wanted another beverage.
The food finally came out, and it was quite disappointing. For a $28 plate of eggplant pasta, I expected so much more. The price did not justify the quality, taste, and portion size of the dish. My husbands fettuccini bolognese lacked salt and had a bit of a greasy mouthfeel. My kids dish was penne pasta with a very simple pink sauce. He charged me half the price of the vodka penne prosciutto/mushroom dish, but we didn’t get any of the prosciutto or mushrooms…
Some of my friends were not treated well. The waiter swatted my friend’s hand away from his dish more than once, which was incredibly rude.
Next came time for dessert. He asked who wanted, and only one person from our table raised their hand right away. He was trying to push a plate with five desserts for our table despite the majority of us saying we didn’t want desserts. He insisted more than once, which was (again) very off-putting.
I got the general impression that he was annoyed that there were children at our table.
He seemed quite upset when we asked him to split the check at the end of the night and said it would not be possible.
We’ve had better tasting pasta from the frozen section of Trader Joe’s. I have had tastier sauces from grocery store shelves than what my family received.
This waiter is working in the totally wrong industry. He looks miserable doing his job.
Don’t come here if you have kids. Or rather, keep your expectations and standards remarkably low, and you’ll have...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with our dining experience. Before we arrived for our reservation we received a phone call to inform us that there was an hour and a half limit for a table for 2. We had no problem with that however, when we arrived we waited over 30 minutes for our table! The night only got worse from there... after we finally were seated it took quite a while for the server to come agknowledge us. She apologized twice but it was almost 9 and we had not even placed our drink order! We could not hear the server tell us the evening's specials because it was very liud in the restaurant. Once we placed our order it took another 20 minutes for the server to come back and tell me they sold out of the appetizer I had ordered. I choose something else but was disappointed very because the server bragged how good the original appetizer I selected was. When I placed my order entree order it was one of the evenings specials (seared scallops with risotto) I explained to the server to not add any Parmesan cheese to my entree because I am allergic and she said no problem. Another 20 minutes passed before she came back to apologize and say that the risotto is pre-made and I needed to choose a different entree because it had parmesan cheese in it. As a server she should know what is in a dish especially if you are trying to upsell a special. She asked me to choose another entree, most high end restaurants would offer to make risotto without cheese and would explain it might take a little longer for my entree to come out. My entire meals was a disaster from start to finish. We spent almost $300 for dinner for 2 people. We were quite surprised by the lack of customer service at this restaurant, you would think the server and manager would try to make the situation right by possibly offering an after dinner drink or a complimentary dessert, something after the horrible service and not being capable of serving me anything I had originally ordered. There are so many goof restaurants in the are. I would recommend not wasting your time or money at...
Read moreThe following complaint is my opinion based on my own personal experience and is thus my own personal opinion of this joint.
Let me start off by saying I dine out at all the top restaurants in south Florida on a regualar basis. Eating at Casa D' Angelo was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. I was treated as if I cleaned the toilets there and wasn’t a paying customer.
I started with the calamari which tasted like rubber and I decided to send the item back because it was inedible. They didn't like that.
Then they brought out the veal cutlet parmesan on the bone with about 5 pieces of penne pasta. My veal portion size was at least 30 percent smaller than any other Italian restaurant I have eaten at in south Florida.
The bimbo female server/bartender had the fat boy, roly-poly, Chef Ricky Piper (he is fat, ugly, and has a strong body odor) come out, at which time he became very confrontational saying that "I" was the problem and not the food. I tried to explain nicely to him that even a child would be hungry leaving his restaurant with these small portion sizes. He told me that "I hate people like you" and to "never come back to my restaurant". Thank you "Rowdy" Ricky Piper for making my already bad experience even worse with your terrible people skills. Fat Ricky Piper probably stuffs himself continuously back in the kitchen by swiping food off of the customers' plates!
To put the icing on the cannoli, the owner Angelo Elia (based out of the original Ft. Lauderdale restaurant location) completely disregarded my complaint with that typical “if you don’t like it go somewhere else” prima donna attitude. He sounded like he just got off of the boat from Italy.
If you work hard for a living and want to enjoy a nice night out on the town then I highly recommend you spend your money elsewhere. I can think of many better restaurant options to spend my hard-earned money at rather than this substandard...
