My husband and I were in Florida and getting ready to set sail on our Cruise... but we rented a car for a few days in Ft. Lauderdale and drove to some of the cities North of there! We drove up to the power plant where there is a warm water run off and we saw all kinds of Manatees and their babies swimming along with small sharks and schools of blue tropical fish and stingrays!!
We were then driving back along Highway 1 and A1a and we started looking for a place to eat that would be different and not one of the regular types of restaurants!!
We had just heard on the radio that Melania Trump was going to their home at Mar-A-Lago and so we found directions to drive around there and we stopped to take some pictures and then a security guard came up and said that we had to move along, but it was kind of exciting to find where their Florida home is!! :)
My husband and I then started to look up different local places in the towns that we were driving through and Fran's had come up but we were still checking out some more places.... finally after snacking out on some Potato chips and other Munchies we said we have to get something to eat so we circled back and stopped in at Fran's which ended up just being a small little hole-in-the-wall place in the middle of a little shopping center!
We walked into this little shop and there were maybe four tables set-up and a couple bar stools at the counter and a small little frying area where they were frying up chicken and it smelled so good!! We decided to order a couple of chicken breasts and some coleslaw and some mashed potatoes with gravy!! All I can say is it was all so tasty.... I could not put down my piece of chicken, it was so crunchy and such a good flavor and the potatoes with the gravy was also just delightful and the coleslaw was a very good flavor and crunchy!! I believe this restaurant has been in business since the 1950s so it has been pretty popular in this area!!
I am so glad my husband and I circled back and tried out this little Quaint restaurant ...we would definitely go...
Read moreRead entire review please. My error! I rated them a five for a bit of an odd reason. First, current reviews. Second, I lived just around the corner from them 1967-1989. Then it was absolutely (actually still is) the best chicken I have ever had anywhere in the US. I took my wife to Boca for our first anniversary for two reasons. First and foremost was to get Fran's chicken. Then to go to Brooks restaurant. We pulled into the parking lot of Fran's and the place was boarded up. (In August 2000) I was extremely disappointed. My first meal from Fran's was in 1967 and to this day I talk about how good the chicken was. IS. I truly hope it is the same and still open. I will definitely plan another weekend just to get their chicken, very soon. SORRY FOLKS! First their web site said they are open Sundays. NOT TRUE! Second, we drove 4 hours, stayed in a hotel for the weekend and planned our weekend around going there on Sunday for lunch. Third, we scouted out the location on Saturday and as we pulled up in front the hours posted had Sunday marked out. I double checked the web site to make sure I had not misread. I went in to double check. The person at the counter said they are not open Sunday. I said "your web site says you are and I had driven 200 miles just to eat there ON SUNDAY. He said "no it does not. " I saw what the place looked like and instantly decided I would not endanger my health to eat there anyway. It was nasty. Dark and dirty. They advertise dine in service. ONE single table with 2 chairs. I apologize for my positive...
Read moreI seriously have no idea what took me over 20 years to try this Fried Chicken Heaven! My parents have eaten here several times but this weekend was my families and I 1st visit. We also live in west Boca so it’s a bit of a drive….but 100% worth the drive! We ordered 10 tenders, 6 wings, 2 breasts, fries, coleslaw & mashed potato’s w/ gravy. Seriously every single thing we got was amazing! The chicken has an amazing coating , slightly sweet and all savory. The breasts are huge and full of meat. The wings are big too, full of meat & perfectly crispy outside. We got hot bbq, Buffalo and Frans sauce on the side. Perfect pairing for the chicken wings, and I’m a huge fan now of Frans Sauce. The fries do not travel well, but we hit them with the toaster when we got home and they were good! The coleslaw is beyond amazing and now my new fav coleslaw in Palm Beach County. If you are a slaw fan YOU MUST buy the slaw here, you won’t be sorry. Mashed potatoes were chunky, skins on, amazing goodness, I will always get these from now on! Get these too if your mashed fans!! Employees are super sweet and so kind, the dude who took my phone order was so helpful when ordering. Listen Boca Raton, if your looking for amazing Fried Chicken & Sides, stop Looking and get to Frans, you...
