Kokoro Sushi — Restaurant in Boca Raton

The space was beautiful and very clean, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. We ordered a bottle of Nigori sake and started with the SP Salmon Crunch Roll. While the roll was fresh and well made, it wasn’t quite as spicy as we expected.

I was hoping to find a roll I’d enjoy, but most of the signature options seemed to be variations on California rolls or included imitation crab, which isn’t my preference. I opted instead for the curry rice, but unfortunately found it underwhelming — the rice was plain and the curry sauce, while thick, lacked seasoning and spice.

My boyfriend tried the pork tonkotsu ramen, which had a noticeably fishy, overly salty, and over all off flavor that didn’t sit well with him. We both considered ordering something else, but it was already 8:30 p.m. on a Sunday and the restaurant was nearing closing time.

That said, the chicken karaage was a standout — crisp, flavorful, and well-executed. We could tell care was put into the preparation of many of the dishes, and we’d be open to giving it another try earlier in the evening to explore...

If I could leave a negative star review I would. The food was HORRIBLE and they clearly do not care about repeat customers. When we inquired as to the chopped fish (which looked and tasted like 2-day old Spam) on top of the sushi roll she said that's how it comes. They refused to adjust the bill when we stopped eating after two bites. These 5 star reviews have to be paid for! This place has been open less than 30 days and I would be SHOCKED if it remains open through the summer. SAVE YOUR MONEY there's other reputable places nearby.

Hot Mama Roll (NASTY) spam looking "spicy tuna" on top and that TINY off-white piece of fish inside bottom right, was the yellowtail. GROSS

Tonkatsu ramen soup tasted like salt powder added to dirty dish water, the seaweed was like old leather, and what is that rubber pink thing???? Uneatable.

We each had two bites and politely advised that we didn't care for the food. Their response was, "That's how it's supposed to come." No adjustment on the $40.00 bill for one sushi roll and that nasty...

BUGS IN MY FOOD. I’ve gone to this place (their sister restaurant before this one opened) for years. The other day, I opened my takeout order at home and there were mini BUGS coming out of it (I drove straight home and everything was sealed). I called them immediately and they told me they don’t believe me and to bring the food back to them to prove it. I live 20 minutes from the restaurant and they wanted me to drive 40 minutes round trip after already wasting all my time and money on my bug ridden order on a work/school night? I had to feed my family something else and put my kids to bed.

They refused to do anything about it and were full of attitude and defensiveness on the phone. Crazy to lose loyal customers over what could’ve been easily resolved with a simple apology and refund.

Don’t waste your time and your money here, unless you want to eat bugs and be treated like garbage.
