This happened over a year ago and I never got around to writing a review, because it’s not something that I do. Clearly it’s still on my mind so you can imagine how terrible the experience was. My boyfriend and I were visiting FL for his birthday (July 4th) last year and I asked him to choose any restaurant he would like. We walked into New York Prime with a little over an hour prior to their stated closing time. Having worked as a server for eight years and dining in plenty of upscale restaurants, I have certain expectations for an establishment such as this. I also understand that patrons coming in late on a holiday can be a “burden” to the staff, however we had over an hour before closing, we knew what we wanted to eat, and this was his birthday dinner so I wasn’t going to suggest otherwise. We walked in to an almost empty restaurant with only one other table that was wrapping up. If it were up to me, I would have gone elsewhere at this point, but again, not my birthday. We are seated and and someone comes over to clear the extra place settings off the table.. and is slamming the dishes. Okay, we get the point. Next, our server arrives. “Do you want something to drink?” No hello, how are you, my name is, etc. We hesitantly order drinks which arrive and a moment later our server asks, “Do you know what you want?” I can’t take it anymore. I say we need a minute, and suggest that we should go elsewhere and my boyfriend agrees. He is a very nice, non-confrontational person and says we have an emergency and asks for the check for our drinks. We pay and leave without a word from anyone. We take an uber to a restaurant called Dada and had an amazing dinner with wonderful service. I have never been treated so poorly at any restaurant, not even fast food. The staff members at New York Prime are prentious and rude, and I would recommend not going unless that’s your type of thing. Personally I’d rather eat Wendy’s in the back of a pickup truck than dine at...
Read moreMy husband and I dined at NY Prime for a very special occasion, his birthday. I asked for special seating when I booked my reservation, more than a week earlier. We arrived on time for our 7:15 pm reservation and were still made to wait 15 minutes. We were then unfortunately seated near the front door and in the aisle. We ordered drinks, 2 appetizers, he had the center cut 12 oz. filet, I had the salmon. Also, a side of brussels sprouts and a tableside portion of fettuccine alfredo. Janine was our server. My salmon was dry, overcooked and flavorless, accompanied with big chewy mushrooms? Not the best paired with salmon. The small portion of brussels was overcooked; mushy and black (overcharred). The tableside fettuccine was dry, lacked cheese and flavor. All portions served on VERY small plates. No beautification of the food. Janine was friendly and attentive. Although, she knew we were celebrating a birthday and did not offer us the complimentary dessert, I had to request it. $263.00 check, well over $300 with gratuity. We were not happy. Hopefully management bothers to notice my review and reply. I frequently visited NY Prime over the years when I lived in Boca. I was very saddened to see such a decline in care of preparation, style and gourmet excellence. If Ny Prime wants younger diners such as us to return, you really will have to do better to earn our money. PS, I sent back the carpaccio appetizer because it was absolutely drowning in thick saucy stuff they squirt all over the plate. I would not have even tasted the thin small portion of carpaccio if I did not have them remake it plain. Just a rookie mistake, not to be expected from...
Read moreOver-rated, Over-priced! It was an awful experience to say the least. The manager was very rude. My husband and I had made an online reservation for an early dinner.(5 pm) a day or so in advance. We also put in a request for a window seat. When we arrived at the restaurant at approximately 4.55 pm that Saturday, there were hardly any other guests there. The restaurant was 99% empty.
A waiter escorted us to a seat up against a wall, next to several unoccupied window seats. We then told the waiter and another waitress that we would prefer one of the empty seats that overlooked the windows. They went to the front desk to inform the greeter/reservation clerk.
Not long after, a manager approached our table wanting to know what the issue was. My husband politely explained that we had requested a window seat when we booked our reservation and there was an empty one right there. The manager then stated that that particular window seat was being reserved for another guest. We found that rather strange as we had also requested a window seat in advance and had arrived before most other guests. At the time, there were only two other couples in the entire restaurant. This manager added that he would hate to see us leave, but if that's what we wanted to do, it's okay.
We were literally in shock and didn't know what to make of the cold attitude from a manager of an upscale restaurant. Mind you, my husband and I are a mixed-race couple and the manager was Caucasian, so go figure! At that point, we had no choice but to simply get up and walk out. The manager offered no apologies. Rather, he shrugged and watched us leave with a smug look...
