When we got there it was busy but not packed. It took a little while to take our drink order. After the order was taken it was about 20 minutes to get our drinks. This was a very long wait.
One person ordered water, that came out relatively quickly. Since the rest of the table didn’t have anything to drink, we all requested waters. When the rest of the table got their waters they were in huge glasses— much larger than the water received by the person who ordered just water. How does that make sense?
My beer came in a snifter. The waitress told me (after I asked) that all IPAs are served in snifters. It wasn’t like my beer was 9% ABV, it was in the 6% range. For a beer centric place this is amateur hour! If you’re going to put a 6% beer in a snifter (which makes it overpriced, apart from being annoying) you should at least say so on the menu.
We had the Tuna Tartare and the Calamari Tower. Why create a tower? I don’t know, it was a little weird. But they both tasted good.
I had the smashburger. There was a deal for $12.50 when it’s purchased with a drink. The burger was good and a great value with the deal. I upgraded the fries for Mac and Cheese. I should have known there was an issue when the waitress asked “is it okay that there is truffle oil on it”. In hindsight I think she was trying to warn me. It was bathed in the oil. It was gross and had an off putting flavor. Why not give the option to add the oil or not?
My companions liked their ribs, steak, sushi bowl, and steak noodle bowl.
One of my companions ordered a second drink before dinner arrived. The drink didn’t arrive until well after he was finished eating. To the waitresses credit, she comped it. But there is some apparently sort of disconnect between the servers and bar. I’m sure the restaurant is missing out on a lot of sales.
Lastly, when we made the reservation we were asked it it was a special occasion. It was. It was a birthday. There was no mention of the birthday by the server or hostess. Am I supposed to say something? If you’re not going to do anything to celebrate the occasion, then you probably shouldn’t ask...
Read moreMy sister and I recently visited Tap 42 on two separate occasions, hoping for a great dining experience. While the food itself was flavorful, the service and attention to detail were consistently disappointing, making both visits frustrating.
On our first visit, the server greeted us briefly but showed no real interest in providing attentive service. After taking our order, they disappeared and never returned to check in before or after our food arrived. The food took close to 30 minutes to come out, which felt excessive, especially since the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. When it did arrive, the burger I ordered medium well was served medium rare. While the flavors were great, the doneness was completely wrong. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up from the server to address the issue, leaving us feeling neglected.
Hoping this was just an off day, my sister and I decided to give Tap 42 another chance. Unfortunately, our second visit was nearly identical. Once again, the food took about 30 minutes to arrive. This time, a steak ordered medium was delivered well done. Despite the obvious mistake, the server didn’t check in with us at any point, making it impossible to address the issue without flagging them down.
While the kitchen does an excellent job with flavors and presentation, the lack of attentiveness from the staff, the long wait times, and the inconsistent cooking temperatures made it hard to enjoy the meal fully. Tap 42 has great potential, but unless they address their service issues and ensure more precise execution of orders, I can’t recommend it as a reliable...

To be honest, I was turned off when my friend said he wanted to go here. I checked out the menu and didn’t want to support a brewery with prices on the higher side for brewery fare. I was pleasantly surprised. The food, service, and decor is well worth the price.
Their special dining menu for $29 is an impressive deal. I went with the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, smash burger, truffle fries, and strawberry shortcake. Clearly, I decided to go the low-cal route.
I’d say the Philly egg rolls were the equivalent of one egg roll cut in half. They were crispy, cheesy, and came with delicious dipping sauces. I’m a big fan of sauces.
The smash burger was incredible. It had two patties and was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The truffle fries were good, but next time I’d order something else since I prefer extra-crispy fries. Again, great sauces came with the burger, so I was sold.
Hello, strawberry shortcake!!! I wanted to drink the sauce with a straw. The cake was spongy and soaked up the rich caramel tres leches sauce. I skipped the strawberries because they were a little mushy, but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering the dessert again.
Our server, Eddie, was top-notch. My soda was refilled every time without me having to ask. Silverware was replaced with each course. Eddie was friendly and knowledgeable.
The interior is super cute and very well decorated. I’ll be coming back!
No photos because I was hungry and inhaled everything. I will make sure to grab some pics on...
