Two stars only because the chicken was okay. I used to come here often and get pizza and calzones (which weren't exceptional, but they were good) but I haven't eaten here in several years because, to be frank, there's much better places to get pizza in town. I wanted pasta and didn't feel like cooking so I figured I'd try a couple of dishes out. I got veal parmagiano with spaghetti and fettuccini alfredo with breaded chicken. The veal was terrible, the worst I've ever had to be honest. It was extremely thin (1/8" thick), WAY over-breaded, dry, overcooked, and virtually flavorless. The chicken was okay; it wasn't dry but the taste of fry oil almost overpowered the flavor of chicken. The sauce for both dishes was very scant (any less and I would've considered the noodles to be dry) and didn't taste like there was any seasoning. It was all tragically bland. I got both of their soups as my sides (tortellini/sausage and some kind of creamy potato) and the tortellini soup was bland and had a single tiny piece of sausage ( maybe the size of a quarter). The potato soup was oily ( visible amounts of oil on top of soup) and also bland. It was a very disappointing dining experience for food that cost over $40.
I've worked in kitchens and done private chef work for years so I understand how much work it takes to do things well. However, I also understand how little effort it takes to not make food that's terrible. A quarter cup more sauce, a little salt, not overcooking meat; those are things that someone running a professional kitchen should be able to easily do. Maybe it was just an off day but I don't think I'll ever go back, not...
Read moreWe were trying to find pizza and my husband found good reviews for this place, but when we got here it was after 6:30 and there was going to be a 30 minute wait (we usually eat much earlier, but we were traveling). We had a hard time deciding whether to stay or go, but we decided to stay and I'm so glad we did! They said we could sit outside at a table, and we got our drinks, but we decided to get the homemade lasagna because pizza would take 30 minutes and the lasagna was already done. We also decided to split the order. The salad was huge (by that time they had indoor seating available and we came in because it was getting cold). The lasagna was brought to us in 2 different bowls and the portions were huge (so glad we decided to split it). Garlic bread also came with it. The lasagna was delicious and so was the bread and salad. The girl who seated us was very attentive and our server, who was very busy, took care of us and apologized when he missed something. We thought they did a great job of taking care of us on a busy Monday night (nobody is this busy on a Monday night. I can imagine how busy they'd be on a weekend!). We highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly eat here again when we're in Boone. We suggest you try...
Read moreI'm working in Boone for a short time for my job. I've just gotten off a long day at work. It's been terribly cold & rainy these few days; I Really wanted, no needed, some super good Italian comfort food. A coworker began to recommend another, but then backtracked and strongly insisted on Bella's. I was NOT disappointed! I was greeted and seated quickly. I was given a menu of that night's specials & was then quickly greeted by my Very personable waitress even before I'd finished reviewing the specials. I didn't really understand all the Italian names of the dishes but the descriptions seemed appealing. I considered a Shrimp and lobster gocce. (I admit I had to look up Gocce). The waitress was great at providing me insider pov about portion & taste. Reassured by her confidence in the dish, I settled on it. Wonderful is not an apt enough word to describe how amazing this dish was I must say, If I could, I'd have this for dinner every night of my life until I died. Although they closed, they still allowed me and other regular patrons to dine in peace. Needless to say I HIGHLY recommended Bella's and the Shrimp and lobster gocce. If I could I give more than 5 stars! Thanks Ashley & Chef...
