New River Grill — Restaurant in Boone

I live in Greeneville, Tn. After coming back from the beach we stopped here. The place is a decent size, a bar and a bunch of tables inside and some outside with shade. We went there around 1PM and went inside. The waitress immediately served us but had to clean the table for us. She gave us menus immediately and got our drinks, asked if we wanted appetizers and we ordered 3. Took about 10ish minutes to get 3 orders out. While waiting she got our orders and while we were eating she filled up our drinks and got our food out as soon as possible. The food was really good. The chicken was very good and their fries were good. Their French fries look like they don’t have anything special but I really liked them. The price for 6 people going there was very reasonable! The only bad thing is, our server went on break right when we were getting done. She didn’t give us a heads up that she was going on break and didn’t leave another waitress for us. I have not found a meal that I've really enjoyed here, yet. The taco salad, which is perpetually one of their specials, is disappointing. The meat, as far as I can tell, is merely a burger patty chopped up. There is no taco flavor. Basically, it's a large side salad with the burger on top. My friends say the burgers and tuna sandwich are good. The service is slow, but I think they're really understaffed. The wait people are always friendly, though. The music is too loud to have an easy conversation unless you sit outside. And, speaking of outside, the chairs outside are HORRIBLE. They are undoubtedly THE most uncomfortable chairs to sit on. I think I'd rather sit on the ground. I've come here more times than I'd like to admit because my friends keep coming. We always complain about the issues I've listed, but still come back. I'm sure our experience was just a one time thing. There is so much potential here! The mac and cheeze bites are to die for!!! The main food, when we finally got it however, was unfortunately quite cold. The wild rice specifically was very cold and that's probably why it wasn't very good? The tuna steak was delicious, crispy, and well sauced though! The black and blue burger was good with the exception of too much onion (which is just preference) and also being cold for about half of it. The reason I gave a 3 stars on service was because the lovely server may have just been overworked? They weren't very attentive, didn't know much about the menu, and didn't really follow up. Lastly, like I mentioned this place has the potential to be amazing it just needs a little tweaking, some time in my opinion, and maybe more staff or cooks?
