This review is not directed towards Anytime Fitness's facilities or staff but rather how they treat a customer demographic.
A few days ago, I started the search for a gym before the New Year rolled around and the gyms became flooded with people trying to succeed in their resolutions. I checked out Anytime Fitness as I drive by it all the time, its a big name gym so I can have gym access when I travel, and I wanted something off-campus. For years even though my undergraduate school had excellent facilities, I preferred working out with the older crowd at an off-campus gym rather than workout around the busy hours that happen on campus.
So I see Anytime Fitness has a 7-day free trial to use their facility and see if you like it. In the past, I have paid daily memberships to test out but I would know after two visits if I would stick with the gym or not. After signing up and calling the next day to go through the next steps I was told:
"During Winter Break, students try to take advantage of us because the Quinn Center and SRC are closed over breaks so it doesn't really apply to you because you are a student who is not looking for a gym. The 7-day trial is only for those looking for a gym not for those looking to take advantage of Anytime Fitness."
This is bad customer service that I will lay out in a few points below:
Anytime Fitness is missing an opportunity to grow their gym membership by being unaccepting towards college students. During Winter Break and Summer Break, these are the opportune times to advertise and grow that segment of your market. This is when people want to work out and can't.
A gym's mantra should be on health not towards sticking it towards "abusers". If someone signs up for a 7-day trial, chances are that person is either trying to maintain their health, or in my case, get healthy.
Its bad customer service. I called Anytime Fitness looking for a gym membership because I am slightly overweight and would prefer an off-campus gym for the reasons above. I shouldn't have to explain myself over the phone on why I want to take advantage of a 7-day trial and not abusing the system. The customer should never have to defend themselves and be accused from the get-go.
While I'm sure Anytime Fitness has nice facilities, I would rather go to a gym that is accomodating towards the students in the town. Anytime Fitness made it loud and clear from my interaction that they are not.
I have taken my search elsewhere for the time being and may revisit the gym if there is any indication that my feedback...
Read moreThe worst customer service I’ve EVER experienced. They charged my account more than $100 without my authorization, when I first called and informed the woman on the phone she apologized, said they would take care of it and was going to look more into my file and give me a call back. Never received a call, it’s been 2+ weeks now and they still have managed to do absolutely NOTHING. They NEVER answer calls, I’ve gone out of my way to go there in person several times and each time I’ve been turned away and told that theres only one person allowed to deal with the financial issues and she wasn’t working that day. They told me to expect a call from this woman by the name of Debbi on Tuesday bc she would be in then to handle my situation, NEVER received a call. Went in myself that same day just for them to tell me she wasn’t there and that she would be coming in on THURSDAY instead???? Never received a call from this Debbi character that day either, she was NEVER THERE on EITHER of those days they claimed she would be. Absolutely ridiculous. Lastly they told me to send an email because “Debbi” always responds quickly and that is how to directly contact her.... it’s been five days and have not recieved a response from email or phone call. BEYOND ridiculous- so careless and unprofessional!!! It’s been more than 2 weeks since they wrongly took $100+ from my account and they are explicitly ignoring me at this point, they are SCAMMERS. Have never experienced such terrible service from a business! I do NOT recommend this...
Read moreI went into the gym to change my payment method since i got a new debit card about a week before the bill came due. A guy (Jackson i think?), tried to change my card info but the system wouldn't let him so he called his manager, who said she would take care of it. He wrote down my card info in a notebook which felt sus. But ok, he assured me no one has access to the notebook but staff. Also tells me i would get a notification to tell me my payments been changed. So a week goes by, i call, no answer. I go in person to see another older guy, who asked what the issue was. I reiterated my story, and the guy asked for my name. I tell him, and he assures me "oh I'll get it fixed for ya! Don't worry, you can go ahead and leave." Which seemed even more SUS to me that he ushered me out. The bill was supposed to come due that same day. Anyways, nothing gets changed until the next day, where they charged me a late fee ON TOP of the regular membership price. So now I have to fight that late fee after this snow storm blows over because I wasn't late to pay, THEY were late to charge my NEW card despite a...
