Terrible service. 45 min for drinks that were ordered during their happy hour that were put in later and...pretty sure we were charged full price for, but tbh I forgot to look. At first, that's what I suspected took so long is that they wanted to charge full price since I had asked when their happy hour was randomly, and it was during the time we came in. Anyway, this was despite others that arrived after our group getting served before us so maybe it was a staff thing...or chance. But we got our drinks week after happy hour ended. Otherwise it was about an hour and a half for an inaccurate food order. The waitress then began handing everyone's items to me to distribute around like I am a part of the waitstaff...yet she didn't cut me a check for doing what she was being paid for. Fine, I'll do the other half of your job so you don't have to take 3 steps and remember stuff now...
I'll grant they were somewhat busy, though far from full on a Wednesday. Also, that some of the larger parties had up to half their people as later arrivals after our initial order. But smaller groups that came in after us also got service before us with drinks and food. Yet, the excuse was the bar and kitchen were running behind... would have been understandable otherwise.
As someone who used to work in the food industry... it was just plain and simple terrible service. The food was good... eventually. Pizza is high in fat and salt, so of course it's good in some way to everyone. The craft beers were okay, as most are. But if they're even slightly busy, you're better off hitting a Tostino's frozen pizza and a pack of Natty Light. You might lose out on flavor but for your time, money, and service expectations invested its a huge savings.
Ultimately, it's another KINDA decently priced "foodie" pizza place with adequately good food and an overpriced beer/booze selection in a service industry that banks more on hipster foodie culture and interior/exterior design more than ACTUAL service and quality food.
You can feel trendy among friends in much better and cheaper ways around town.
2 stars because our group consensus was that the food was "good." Maybe I'm the a-hole of the group as that is a minimum expectation for me for people who choose to professionally create good meals and serve others. But, I care about the service the received. And my friends were treated as paupers tonight...
Funny, given how much...

Easy upgrade to 5 stars. Stromboli was excellent and who knew you're not limited to the three choices in stromboli section? You can get any pizza converted to a stromboli and I'm sure just make you own. I chose the sausage and shrooms in stromboli form. Excellent with a crust that's divine.
I first had the Scottish Ale and it was delicious. Then, I watched a margarita pass by and had to have one. It was excellent and they use fresh lime juice. Tiny suggestion? Stock Gran Gala (way cheaper and better flavor in my opinion than Gran Marnier). With that as a marga topper, it would best anything in the area (I've tried most of them.... Using store bought mix yuck).
Thanks to Ben for a great second experience and for a super friendly staff and atmosphere.
Yes, all the below is true BUT after posting this review I received the response you can see from the owner. They are going to make the situation right... And that's a rare thing nowadays.
Further, the pizza WAS very good and my colleagues said the stromboli was excellent. Perhaps, I'll try that when I go back and bump this up to five stars.
Lunch today with a group of 11 people. My pizza order was lost somehow... Hey, this happens.
But....a couple things need to be corrected. First, waiter told me twice, "the kitchen apologizes." Orders get lost but let's not assign blame or, worse yet, pass blame when it might have been your fault as the waiter.
Next, my renewed order took forever. Not like I was going to hold up the entire group, so I asked for my pizza in a box. That should have alerted the waiter not to bring me a bill. Certainly not a full price bill PLUS automatic 20% tip due to a group.
I don't expect perfection but I do expect professionalism and customer service.
I won't be back. (NOT SO! I'm looking forward to going back now!)
Oh! Pizza was decent because one of my colleagues took pity on me and offered me a slice.... Pizza 4 stars and why my overall review...
Read moreGroups beware! I have been to Flying Heart several times and really enjoyed it. The beers are decent to this amateur beer drinker, I particularly enjoy the shandies. The pizza is not the best, but I love the atmosphere. However, the service has never been stellar. I recently choose to hold a monthly book club meeting there and ended up extremely embarrassed by my choice. More seasoned beer drinkers were disappointed in the quality and received inconsistent brews due to the supposed “opening of a new keg.” Even a guest tap was handled improperly and resulted in subpar beer. Another person at my table asked for a triple pepperoni pizza and received hardly more toppings than an original pepperoni. The waitress was annoying and not responsive enough, though we always order enough to create fat checks. Speaking of which... there was a notice on the check that a service charge would apply to large groups and we had not issue with this as we are all good tippers and expected to be charged the customary 15-18% gratuity. Imagine our surprise when we got the checks and they had added 25% for the service charge. Some of our party complained and the waitress brought the manger out who claim it was an automatic charge in the computer and refused to reduce it to a reasonable amount. Subsequently she left our table to “call the owner” and the came back and reiterated that the fee was fixed and could not be adjusted. I am ashamed to say that members of our party caused a scene and promised to never come back, but nonetheless we paid our checks before we left. I am saddened to have even suggested the location and I hate that Flying Heart would undercut their our business in this...
