Normally, I would give this place 4.5 out of 5 stars, but for the sake of this review, I'll round it up to five.
This is a very clean, well-kept gaming cafe located right in the heart of Boston. There are ample gaming computers, as well as some console areas where you can set up local LAN games with your friends, a la Smash Brothers or stuff like that.
Plenty of games available on the PC, as well as access to Discord and other apps, making it a worthy substitute of a home computer.
They do have a cafe which does serve Boars Head meats and cheeses, which blew me away. That alone deserves some recognition, as Boars Head is the best choice for deli meats.
The staff were also very kind and helpful in getting us started with accounts, and the rates were reasonable.
The only reason I would ding the place slightly is because some of the games required updating. Fortnite took ten minutes to patch, and PUBG took twenty. I do recognize that these games update all the time, but I would like to see if the bigger patches can be done ahead of time, rather than having to wait for it while my time ticks down. That's my only criticism.
Do give it a look, it's a good location and it's...
Read moreI came out of retirement while having two weeks off from other hobbies to game here despite having a setup at home. The space has a super vibe and the staff are very good about using sani-wipes on every setup after each use. Lots of the staff are really great and there's one guy, with a few arm tattoos I think, that especially has the best friendly vibes. Alienware PCs and they have two different mice: Glorious Model Os, which are lighter, or the Logitech G203s (I think).
There's events Tuesday/Thursday/Friday for the fighting game communities (melee, ultimate, and fight stick games) and the space becomes bustling and especially lively on Fridays (though I really don't know how people play ranked valo or cs2 during this). Usually lots of groups chilling on ARAMs or QP also.
They have a cafe with sandwiches, tenders, ramen, fries, shakes, and soju for those who want to get a little loose.
I write this wistfully as I slink back into retirement and desperately fight the urge to come back for the unlimited day pass on Mondays; I'll miss the horrid shouts that Balance Patch is closing in 30 minutes....
Read moreI recently discovered Balance Patch while on a business trip in Boston. I had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of most of the staff employed there to be quite honest, all of them proved to be extremely personable and professional.
The owners (Peter and Bryan) were extremely enthusiastic, pleasant, and professional; even going so far as to recommend places that I should visit around town to further my own personal ventures.
The atmosphere in Balance Patch is very energetic and welcoming, I had the pleasure of meeting a lot of local players there and I recall the place being quite busy (especially on weekends).
The small (but cleverly crafted) menu gives you plenty of healthy options to eat for your lengthy gaming sessions. The panini "cafe" that they have installed reminded me very much of Publix subs as they were using Boar's head meat.
Overall, I was very pleased with my experience at Balance Patch, and can highly recommend the place if you are a console or PC gamer looking for a place to meet new people and/or play games surrounded by fellow gaming...
