After a pretty standard dinner last night, we came back to the Blackmoor this evening. However, our experience has taken a pretty drastic turn for the worse.
When we walked in, a waitress asked for our party size, we told them 4. As she was grabbing the menus, the hostess slid in and asked if we were being helped. She counted our party and led us to a table, completely ignoring the original waitress and leaving her confused at the desk.
We were sat at a table with utensils, however we were not handed menus. After we were sat, we waited for 15 minutes before our waitress, Estefany, came over. She asked us what we'd like, and I had to tell her we haven't even received the menus yet. Realizing her mistake, she returned with the menus and said she'd be back with water and glasses. 10 minutes later she came back to take our order, absent of water.
One of the members of my party asked to order a whiskey sour; a relatively simple drink. Yet instead of taking the order for the drink, she asked for him to point out where it was on the menu. As a bartender in training, a whiskey sour is one of the most standard drinks one can order. Menu or otherwise, it shouldn't be an issue to order. My party member instead took a seat at the bar and ordered the drink himself, which he received. After taking our order, she returned after another 15 minutes to ask if we were just waiting on the food. I had to remind her that we were also waiting for the water.
Our food, once we had received it, was good. The wings were tasty (especially the sauce) and the chili was great. The whiskey sour was also phenomenal, in addition to the Florist specialty drink. However, my Tavern Burger that I had ordered specifically without egg arrived on my table with a big fried egg right on top. Luckily I didn't have an allergy to eggs, however this easily could've happened to someone who was.
I should also note the restaurant itself and atmosphere. While we were being seated, I noticed a table that was full of empty glasses and half eaten plates. I didn't think much of it at the time, maybe the party that ate there recently left and the table just hasn't been cleaned yet. However after an hour and a half of being in the establishment, the table hasn't even been touched and was still full of dirty dishware and leftovers. The exact same thing happened with the table next to ours: after they finished and left, the table wasn't touched by any of the wait staff. A third table sat untouched after its party left, however that one did get cleaned up after only 20 minutes. Better drastically delayed than never, I suppose. Even after leaving, the first table never was cleaned.
The many TVs were all tuned to the Bills/Dolphins game and a rerun of the Bruins game. The speakers were all playing someone's Spotify playlist of generic pop music which got very old very quickly, and felt especially out of place considering the demographic of the patrons.
I thought we escaped our ordeal once the checks arrived; I was mistaken. We had requested to split the check, but the whiskey sour was improperly placed onto a different member of my party instead of the one who ordered it. We waited an extra 10 minutes for our server to come back, much less to leave after the bills were paid. By this point we were very fed up and just wanted to leave.
After pretty standard service last night, we were appalled by our return visit and I can assure you that unless things strongly change we will not be back. It's a shame that several great plates of food and 2 phenomenal cocktails were completely tarnished by...
Read moreSaw this place on phantom gourmet and was excited about taking my daughter there for her birthday. I ordered a Mama Ceta Mary for $11 (reg is $9) and it took forever to come out. The waitress (very nice) explained that they had to cook some shrimp because they were out. When it did come out the shrimp was hot in temperature and a 36-40 count in size - REALLY? The bloody mary tasted good otherwise. I ordered a second one and asked her to sub the shrimp for the beef jerky (which is in the Mary O'Hara) and she brought me 4 tiny shrimp and 2 pieces of bacon - better but not what I asked for.
We ordered the Bavarian Style Baked Pretzel to start at $7 and it looked great, but it was not fresh baked as it was barely warm. Both my daughter and I agreed it was a disappointment. The waitress never circled again and someone else delivered our breakfast. I got the Shakshuka "Poached Eggs in a Spicy Moroccan Tomato Sauce with Chili Peppers, Onions, Lamb Merguez Sausage, Vermont goat cheese, served with Grilled Naan Bread" at $12 - two of the three poached egg were cooked solid like a hard boiled egg and if there was goat cheese in there - not sure where it was.
My daughter got the Colombian Scramble Scambled Eggs, Carnitas, Potatoes, Cheddar Cheese, Salsa Verde, Corn Tortilla and that was good.
Overall a huge disappointment and the place was maybe a 1/3 full at noon time when we arrived - so I am thinking we are not the only people who have been...
Read moreStruggle! The service was a struggle. We were 9 people, ordered drinks and appetizers + dinned. They were not busy at all, maybe 5morw tables top. In 45 min it was still an empty table, no water was served. We asked for water at the bar - six bottles of water were served to us. Then came the drinks and dinner, no one knows what happened to the appetizers?? Absolute chaos. The pulled pork was not pulled just a big chunk was served, slightly dry. The brisket was good, the ribs were good. Definitely some BBQ sauce on the side could be helpful. The greens as a side dish were awful, the coleslaw was a very small portion. The whiskey burger was good, the fried onions were fried probably yesterday, very soggy. The fish and chips dish was good, fish coating on a greasy side but tasty. The desserts were great. The smoke meets were my favorite, but the service was an absolute struggle. Very minimal communication with the server. I hope they are just still recovering from COVID and can pick up quickly, because the food was good.
Come back next evening - because of the smoked ribs. The ribs were dry, that everything. The pretzel - tasteless. The whiskey burger was good, the fried onions were fried probably yesterday, very soggy. The fish and chips dish was good, fish coating on a greasy side but tasty. The lobster roll was the star of the evening. The desserts were great. Service slightly better, but...
