My friend & I walked into the cafe. He's white, I'm Black. He had raved about this shop and I was excited to try it out as I don't get to the North End often.
I went up to the counter (Im 6 feet, you cant miss me). My friend explained that the waitresses come to you and bring you menus. So we found a table by the window.
Now mind you, the place was not busy, in fact, there was a group of 5 young men toward the back and 3 men sitting near us. No one else was there.
So we wait. And we wait. He's trying to get the attention of the people behind the counter. There are 3 of them (A young man, young woman and an older woman at the far end of the counter).
In short we were ignored. I understand if the place was busy, but it was not. Finally my companion and I left. He said maybe they changed their policy but he was here 2 months ago.
So I decided to call. The woman explained the foods they had and I specifically asked her if they had waitresses to serve the patrons and she said yes.
Needless to say I will NOT be coming back. I didn't like the vibes or intention that was put out there.

Read moreAttempted to dine here at 9pm on a Saturday night. Place was busy but had 4 free tables on our arrival. After being seated (immediately), we waited 15 minutes. No server had come to us. We checked at the counter to make sure we weren't supposed to be ordering up there, and were directed back to table. 8 minutes later a server came to us. We were told every one of the food options was unavailable. We ordered 3 drinks. Only one gentleman was working the espresso bar. We waited 25 minutes, and needed to leave before we missed our train home. We flagged our waitress that we had to leave, she offered to change our order to to go, but the batista had too much backed up to move the drinks to to go cups. We handed our server $20 and left.
I hope to return when I can sample the wares and give a more accurate review of...

The counter staff was young and energetic and the food was above average and reasonably priced. There were many locals eating when we arrived on Sunday afternoon and it felt like everyone knew each other. I would return to try more of the menu some time, but it seems like this is more of a coffee and dessert spot than a place to get a nice sit down meal. Added points for naming half the menu off famous Italian...
