The Finest as Expected and truly an Honor to John McGee.
Booked a private luncheon for about 30 people in the Terrace Room overlooking North Square. It was an extraordinary experience from the start. The event was a memorial for my mother, and the staff not only arranged for the lunch but helped in advance arrange a reception table with photographs and memories. They greeted everyone as they arrived graciously and respectfully, and made everyone feel important, as if they were diplomats arriving for a world-wide conference. My friends and family still talk about the experience.
Mamma Maria (Phoebe, Mo, Ruben, and countless staff who must go unnamed) are super-cognizant of the needs of their patrons, and goes out of their way to make each and everyone of them feel like royalty. It is hard to explain otherwise.
by the time we were seated, and comfortable in the lavish, neat and beautiful surroundings, we were served with impeccable selections of wine and beer, (choices left entirely to the management and they did not disappoint), we were already enjoying each others company as if we had visited with family at home. It is that feeling and ambience that is impossible to re-create unless you know it in your heart, and it comes from a long understanding of the needs of people, which began with its founder John McGee, and is now run with dignity and diligence by his daughter Phoebe and her associates.
The food was simply out of this world. a caesar salad, mozzarella caprese and mixed spring vegetables began the experience, soon followed by a 2 delightful pastas, alla "cacio e pepe" and bolognese style, which I still remember. the second dishes were a roasted chicken with lentils, and Steak Tips all cooked perfectly with a marinade to die for.
By the time the samples of desserts (they have a separate and expert dessert chef) had arrived, we were sated, and well into the family and friend celebration.
The restaurant melted into the background, and we all all felt comfortable throughout, never rushed, always respected, and incredibly lucky and honored to have been in attendance of such a lavish and perfect banquet. Because it followed a memorial service, photographs would not be appropriate, but just imagine the food, perfectly arranged and presented, professionally in the most expensive 5-star restaurants in the world, and Mamma Maria would exceed those standards.
It is an honor and privilege to know the people of Mamma Maria restaurant, the experience is second to none in the world and it is among the finest places you will ever dine, ever.

Read moreIn the heart of Boston’s North End, where cobblestone streets whisper tales of yesteryear, we found ourselves stepping into the warm embrace of Mama Maria, a haven of Italian culinary artistry. On a quiet weekday evening, the restaurant welcomed us with an inviting glow, a beacon of comfort amidst the bustling city.
As we entered, the rich aromas of simmering sauces and fresh herbs enveloped us like a cherished memory, transporting us to a rustic Italian kitchen. The ambiance was intimate, a mosaic of soft lighting and charming decor that set the perfect stage for a romantic dinner.
We began our culinary journey with the Bruschetta al Pomodoro, a vibrant tapestry of ripe tomatoes, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of balsamic reduction atop crispy crostini. Each bite was a burst of freshness, a delightful prelude that awakened our senses and prepared us for the feast ahead.
For the main course, I chose the Osso Buco, a braised veal shank that was nothing short of a revelation. The meat was tender and succulent, falling off the bone with a gentle nudge, while the accompanying saffron risotto cradled the rich flavors in a creamy embrace. My partner savored the Pasta alla Vodka, where delicate penne danced in a luscious sauce, vibrant and tangy, with just the right hint of spice to ignite the palate.
As we dined, the attentive staff wove through the restaurant with grace, their warmth adding to the familial atmosphere. They shared stories of the dishes, connecting us to the heart of the kitchen, where tradition and passion melded into every creation.
No meal would be complete without a sweet finale, and we indulged in the Tiramisu, a decadent masterpiece that melted in our mouths. Layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone whispered sweet nothings, leaving us in a blissful state of satisfaction.
As the evening drew to a close, we lingered over our wine, savoring the last sips and the cozy ambiance that felt like home. Mama Maria is not just a restaurant; it is a celebration of love, family, and the simple joys of life, where every dish tells a story and every moment is cherished.
In conclusion, our visit to Mama Maria was a delightful escape into the heart of Italian cuisine. We left with our hearts full and our spirits lifted, eager to return to this culinary gem in the heart of Boston, where the flavors of Italy continue to captivate...
Read moreAnother great find in Boston. We are down in the little Italy area and the first choice restaurant did not work out it just didn't feel right. But the second restaurant we went to was a masterful hit.
Our waiter Andre was spectacular. The epitome of a top quality waiter made you feel at home and made your whole experience enjoyable.
He also had the backing of a really fine restaurant without standing food. I was in the mood for a top quality homemade pasta dish and they delivered.
I wish I could spew out the names of all the different dishes we had but I just cannot remember them to fairly represent them. I can tell you the four of us had four spectacular dishes and we all ate everything which is rare at an Italian restaurant where you typically have so much filling food.
Of what I can remember, we had a fresh buffalo mozzarella from Italy with warm tomatoes and that was very good. My wife had a pasta with the word duo in it which was two different kinds of pasta prepared there was a ravioli type dish and a pasta dish with a red sauce and they were both really really really good I won't bore you with more reallies.
My youngest daughter had pasta de la Norma which was with a full Italian burrata melted on top and it was incredibly delicious. I typically don't see her eat the entire dish but it was gone.
I had a dish which was a homemade pasta with something of a meat sauce but it was much more than that. The meat sauce must have had some kind of cream or cheese in it it was a little on the creamy looking side and it was flavorful beyond compare.
We are now impatiently waiting on the dessert menus to see what can top off this wonderful meal.
We also wound up having accidentally an entire private room which along with the levity of our wonderful waiter was a absolute great time.
We were able to fit in dessert amazingly. It was very difficult to not finish all the delicious food here to save room for dessert but we did. Well we didn't really we just pushing the limits.
We had a variety of tiramisu with raspberry and it is great. Is it a nice refreshing take on a tiramisu where the raspberry sauce adds some brightness to it. See the pictures...
