It was an early Friday morning and first aid CPR training was happening today in the office. So I decided to buy some donuts but not just any kind of donuts. I did not want Dunkin’ Donuts. I was trying to find a place that sold Krispy Kreme doughnuts in New England within the Boston area. I was very surprised to find that Krispy Kreme does not exist up this way. So I decided to find a local donut company that was open as early as 7 AM. After going through 1,000,000 Dunkin’ Donut locations that popped up while searching on the Waze app, I finally found a place called Doughboy Donuts that was on the way to the office. So that’s where I decided to go, hoping in the back of my mind that the donuts were good. I noticed that they were busy for such an early time of the morning. The place is open 24/7 so I hoped that I could possibly get some fresh donuts or possibly warm donuts. Service was quick although you have a very small area where you place orders. As soon as you walk in, the counter is about 4 feet in front of you. It’s a vibe. They have handwritten menus on the wall, which always finds to be really great from an artist perspective, but often times it can be hard to read the handwriting in some places. I was able to clearly read the menu inside Doughboy Donuts. I decided to order a dozen of glazed donuts and a dozen of assorted donuts. I was told promptly that they could provide me half a dozen of glazed donuts, and a dozen assorted donuts. I thought they were joking when they told me that initially because they’re obviously open 24/7 and they sell donuts. I asked why I am only able to get half a dozen of glazed donuts. They proceeded to let me know that they only had a dozen glazed donuts, and if I bought a dozen glazed, then they will be out of glazed donuts. At that point, I was really perplexed because I thought it was another joke based on their reasoning that that they provided to me. I was thinking to myself, “Is this NOT a donut shop that wants to sell donuts?” Lol… It did not make any sense to me at all. I could tell that she noticed the very strange face I was making trying to figure it out. If all you have is 12 dozen glazed and someone wants to buy the 12 dozen glaze… You sell the 12 dozen glazed donuts to them. Then you are out of glazed donuts until you make more. But they also had plain donuts right beside the glazed donuts. So I was thinking in my mind, can they not just glaze more plain donuts? That way they have more glazed donuts after I buy a dozen? Another lady who was working the counter, offered it to go ahead and give me the 12 glazed, but I decided to just accept the six and go with the 12 assorted donuts. It was quite funny to me. I got to the office and everyone loved the donuts because they were light and flaky with a wonderful taste. The group was very happy that I did not bring Dunkin’ Donuts because their donuts are heavy for such an early morning session. Others in the office who were able to also get some donuts before lunch also ranted and raved about how great the donuts tasted . I also ate a couple of donuts and they were very delicious!! 🤤 But I DID WONDER whether or not they make their own donuts though lol since they did not have a lot of glazed donuts early in the morning. I would be willing to buy donuts again from Doughboy Donuts without a doubt since I cannot buy a Krispy Kreme location in New England. The service was quick. The people working were very courteous and helpful. It had a local vibe feel that appealed to me. The cost of a dozen donuts were a little higher than I expected, though. A dozen glazed was $28 and a dozen assorted donuts was exactly the same price. Maybe it’s New England that has the price so high.? I’m not quite sure. Unfortunately I forgot to...
Read moreDoughboys use to be my last resort option when heading home from late night study sessions as nothing else was open along my way home. I was often helped by the drive thru employee by the name of Joanna who always seemed to have an attitude when helping me (rolled eyes upon payment, agitated tone of voice at the rare occasion that I ask a question, etc.) One particular night I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a hot decaf tea from Joanna. Upon sipping my tea I immediately began to dry heave. Another sip and I stopped the vehicle because I thought I was going to vomit. I thought maybe I had been giving the wrong order by mistake only to notice upon taking off the lid that there was visibly curdled rancid milk that had been added to my beverage. As I irately turned my vehicle around, I returned to doughboys to inquire about what had happened. I was "helped" by another employee by the name of Alex who said she didn't smell anything. She took my tea and when she turned around I could hear her giggling to another employee about what had happened. Joanna herself came to the window and with a plastered smirk on her face said she too couldn't smell anything. I asked them both to physically look at the drink but knew there was no point as it was blatantly clear that my drink had been tampered with. I am truly disgusted at the unprofessionalism that I had experienced and even upon reporting the situation to the owner, she too dismissed my accusation saying "sometimes the girls switch the cream and milk in the machines, I really don't believe that they did it on purpose." She truly condoned the revolting behavior of her employees. As though I would actually report an employee for putting cream instead of milk in my tea. I have never been so disgustingly disrespected at an establishment and should have known better than to return to such a place after my first inclinations. I have spoken to various people (particularly people of color) about what had happened at doughboys only to find out that this wasn't an isolated incident. They too have had their food tampered with for whatever reason. If you are a POC about to enter what is known as a racist part of town (southie) think twice before you dine here. And definitely don't let Joanna or Alex help you, you might end up...
Read moreI never felt so discriminated against until I went into this establishment on 03/17/24 @ 11:00pm. The cashiers that worked there that night gave me a horrible experience. I asked for a dozen sugar raised donuts. I believe their motto is "the early bird gets the worm." The donut shop only makes the donuts at 10:00pm so I arrived an hour later to make sure I had a choice. Both cashiers were racist, telling me that I can't have a dozen of the same donuts that I am only allowed to buy a half a dozen of the same donut. ALLOWED?? Here is the question: If I were a White police officer that came in and ordered a dozen glazed donuts would the officer be denied service?? I had the money and should be ALLOWED to buy WHATEVER I WANT! I won't go back..I am going to find a donut shop that can afford to give a customer a dozen donuts without tellling me what I can and cannot have especially when it is available. If you don't want to be considered racist or prejudice maybe you should list what we can and cannot purchase before we enter the establishment. Otherwise, your establishment is racist. HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT! CHANGE YOUR BIASED WAYS OR HIRE NEW WORKERS!!! CUSTOMERS COME IN ALL COLORS AND FROM ALL FINANCIAL BACKGROUNDS. WAKE UP AND...
