My wife and I took a gamble on Il Molo for our anniversary this year, and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful for dinner. They kept the lights low, giving a romantic atmosphere, but the light decor gave the place an open feel, unlike the dark, cloistered feel that I'm used to in the north end. There was an eclectic mix of classic music playing at a level just above background, but not noisy at all. I really like this, and I'd say it is an atmosphere that would work for just about any type of meal with anyone.
The server was prompt and courteous. No complaints.
Drinks: I ordered a Rob Roy, and it was the best I've had on the East coast. Well done!
Appetizer: We had the calamari appetizer, which was crispy with a delicious, tangy sauce. It was a tad overcooked and rubbery, so no high marks here, but it did taste great.
Entrees: My wife ordered the swordfish, and I had a Lamb shank and mushroom risotto that they had on special. Both were outstanding. The swordfish was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. The lamb was savory with a delicious glaze, and fall off the bone tender. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious.
We did not order desert, because the portions were ample.
All in all, this one gets high marks from me. It was one of the best meals I have had in quite some time. For the price, I consider this a great value. I just hope the calamari was a fluke, as it was definitely...
Read moreWe had a lovely dinner here a few weeks ago. Like others have said, this is a basement restaurant but it is lovely inside, very tastefully decorated. It's a shame being so close to the marina and not having that ocean view but the ambiance is very nice.
We started with some oysters which were so fresh and tasty. The cocktail mignonette sauce was very well seasoned. They had an okay wine list, geared more towards ordering by the bottle and not a ton of options to order by the glass.
For dinner I had the scallops with lobster sauce and a saffron risotto. It was good, but I feel the reviews really oversold it. Scallops were cooked well but only seared on 1 side which I found unusual. The risotto was good, the saffron was very mild and if I closed my eyes I don't think I would have guessed it was in there. Lobster sauce was very good.
Another person in our party got the lobster pasta special and it looked amazing, basically a whole cracked lobster tail in there and she was moaning over it. I would definitely get that next time.
Overall we had a nice experience and I would be...
Read moreWhen you first walk in you’ll notice the decor is absolutely on point. They’ve worked hard to create a spacious and intimate feeling environment inside is what is fundamentally not a giant space. The soft lighting, thoughtful fixtures, comfortable and practical furniture and other high end touches really work.
We enjoyed clam chowder, Calamari done in an light breading with an Asian style chili sauce. Both dishes were delicious and fresh.
For mains we stepped into a fisherman’s stew style risotto which included cod, salmon, shrimp, clams, muscles, and octopus in an oily and delicious sauce. the salmon and Brussels did not disappoint my companion.
To cap the evening we enjoyed some house made Cannolis which were sweet without being indelicate.
Wonderful for a date night. I recommend Il...
