So so yummy! We discovered this unassuming little shop after seeing it get written up in Boston Eater and boy am I glad we decided to swing by after catching a movie at South Bay. We ordered the oxtail roti (~$13) and the chicken bone-in dinner plate ($13), plus a peanut drink ($5). The oxtail roti was wrapped in soft, fragrant roti and accompanied by rice, beans, potatoes, and generous amounts of tender, fall-off-the-bone oxtail. Careful, it was bone-in! The bone-in chicken was similarly tasty, and accompanied by two sides of your choice -- I choose the cabbage which was a perfect partner; if not light, it was a nice vegetable pairing against the heavier chicken and rice. The potato side was also really tasty, fragrant and spicy. The peanut drink was a bit heavy for me, and very sweet, but I enjoyed it nonetheless (well, I drank a few swigs and saved the rest for later).

Sure, $30 for such a humble shop seems steep, but given how much meat you're getting and the size of the portions, it easily is lasting us 4 meals, so I say that's a huge win. Service is friendly. No parking but we were able to find a convenient space down the...

I saw a lot of negative reviews, but as a person of Caribbean heritage, I figured people were just put off by "bad service" aka "normal Caribbean restaurant service."

"I bet this place is a misunderstood gem" I told myself.

I ordered a Boneless Chicken Roti Dinner (with chana and potatoes). Pretty standard. It arrived intact and the portion was enormous, which was a pleasant surprise.

The roti skin was fine, and that's all the good that I can say. Never in my life have I ordered this kind of food and had it come to me unsalted. Not until today. It was so bland that I thought there was something wrong with my mouth. I think the chicken, potatoes, and chana were cooked together (which is totally fine) and that's why they all tasted so bad. The chicken was tough, and the potatoes swam in a watery, pool of what I think was supposed to be a sauce.

Underneath the chicken was a landslide of mushy, overcooked coconut rice that also wasn't salted. It had the consistency of oatmeal.

I should have known better. But...

I wasnโ€™t going to do this but Iโ€™m legit STILL mad. Last week I went here with a friend. Iโ€™ve before, many years ago and it was fine, was never a fan of the roti but the buss up was goodโ€ฆ fast forward to present day, I spent like $80 including tip and all 3 dishes were horrible. I was SO mad. Not just, didnโ€™t taste good, they were not edible, I threw it away. The roti skin was not good, gummy and under cooked, everything in it was mush and the jerk stew chicken was hard bc it was overcooked. The goat in the buss up was tough and mostly thick chunks of fat which means they did not clean the meat properly. The oxtails were tough and the potatoes were underwhelming to say the least. Maybe it was just a bad day? But for sure I will never go there again. There are better options yโ€™all. To be fair, the owner is very nice, personable and the homemade hot sauce is on point; things were wrapped well and labeled. But there needs to be a new cook in the kitchen. And it was all overpriced. $20+ plates?? For what I got?...

Singh's Roti shop is a total gem in the Dorchester/Boston area! Seriously, it's the kind of place you wanna keep coming back to. The vibe there is so welcoming, and the crew, including the owner, really make you feel at home. On our first trip, the owner hooked us up with these insane dumplings drenched in this mouthwatering sauce. And don't even get me started on the rotis... They were seasoned to perfection and just downright amazing! Oh, and here's a heads up: if you're brave enough to ask for hot sauce, brace yourself! It's the real deal. If you're from the Caribbean, it's like a taste of home. But if you're not used to Scotch Bonnet peppers, take it easy. Trust me, you'll end up loving their hot sauce, but maybe start slow!

Singh's is my go to for Authentic Trinidadian food! Every time I'm in the city, I stop by. I've been going for years! It was so nice to bring my infant here as I was a little girl coming to them with my mom once upon a time. The food is so flavorful, filling and priced appropriately. The staff are wonderful and family oriented. Not only can you buy food, but drinks, sauces, Trini decorations, flags, cooking ware, spices and dessert! Their new location has a dine in option now as well! Can't wait to go again. Below is my shrimp roti ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ I also got the doubles but ate it too quickly to take a pic
