I've enjoyed more late night slices at this pizza joint than I should admit. So many in fact that I went in last night to redeem multiple punch cards (this cool rainy weather really has me craving some warm and indulgent fare). Yes folks even during their busiest times of day the staff are always happy to either punch your existing punch card or start a new one for you (buy ten slices get the 11th for a penny).
My favorite slice has to be the white or pesto. The napkins are kept behind the counter so if you like to dab any oil/grease from the top of your slice be sure to request extra napkins when paying.
There are always several pies to choose from - from thin crust to deep dish. You can always add that favorite topping for a bit more but somehow I seem to wait until I'm absolutely ravenous to get in for my pie.
Last night was a calm one and I am happy to have taken the time to actually check out their dessert offerings as well as to relax and eat my pizza on their patio. Cannoli's aren't really my thing so I didn't find them enticing though they do offer both plain and chocolate covered. I decided to go for the carrot cake as it looked absolutely fabulous. Thick white frosting and whole walnuts to boot. We found out from speaking to the staff that the carrot cake is fresh made in store by their chef Julio, and boy can you tell it was made with care. I am huge on desserts and all things sweet and I am so excited to share this stellar find. The cake was delightfully dense and the carrot slivers were large enough to see but not distractingly large or noticeable to chew.
If you aren't in mood for a slice I most definitely recommend snagging their carrot cake! It is extremely delicious and I will be returning sooner than later for...
Read moreAs I work in Boulder, the Pearl St. Mall is one of my favorite places to go and grab lunch. On this occasion, I was looking for a quick bite as I was pressed a bit for time. I came across Pizza Color which offered pizza by the slice and I thought -- perfect -- just what I needed satisfy my lunch hunger pangs. The Restaurant is small and rather quaint, you walk in and order from the menu on the wall, or you can choose from a wide variety of pizzas on display behind the glass. I ordered a slice of Pesto cheese and a slice of what they called the"Angry Hawaiian" which had pineapple, (I know, I have to go to Confession for this) bacon and cheese. I also ordered one of their homemade soups, the chicken tortilla, and the whole process took about ten minutes and I was on my merry way. Delicious! Absolutely delicious. The pizza was some of the best I had ever tasted, the soup was just a bit spicy, but not overwhelming, and was a perfect compliment to the pizza I ordered. (Forgo the crackers and get the croutons. Trust me you won't regret it) They also have a variety of other Italian dishes on the menu which is a guarantee I will be back, because their food is just that good. It's not a chain, but locally owned and the staff is friendly, fast and professional. Kudos to Elizabeth and Dan, (I hope I got your name right) because they helped me with my selections, and had I a bit more time, I would have taken up a seat in the back, something I'm going to have to take up with my boss, but I digress. So if you're on the Pearl St. Mall and feel the need to go Italian, stop by the Pizza Colore. Great food at a fair price, and enough to satisfy even the most ravenous of lunch hunger pangs....
Read moreI grew up in Boulder and often went here with my friend for lunch during the week while we were students at Boulder High School from 2002 to 2006 (we were both good students and there was an open campus policy, don't judge). I haven't lived in Boulder for quite a while now, but I try to visit Pizza Calore whenever I'm back in town. Absolutely delicious pizza, cozy atmosphere, and a great staff working there!
I still remember one occasion in particular - back in 2005 I believe - when a new employee was working there. My friend and I walked in for lunch, before they had officially opened. This was the usual routine for us, but the employee hadn't seen us before. He politely told us that unfortunately, they weren't open yet. At that point, the manager turned around to see what was happening. He told the new employee, "No, they're regulars," and they let us order. My friend and I almost always got slices of pepperoni, and since they knew that we were coming, they made sure to have a pepperoni pizza baked early so that we had hot slices ready to eat when we arrived. I've never forgotten that, and I really should have written this five star review a long time ago.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to suggest that you should show up to Pizza Calore outside of their posted hours of operation like I did... please don't do that, it was actually pretty rude of me to do so. But what I am trying to say is that they have some stellar employees who will go the extra mile for the sake of their customers. I love Pizza Calore and always look forward to going back here whenever I'm in Boulder. I can't recommend it...
