As a native Montanan, I'm no stranger to MacKenzie River Pizza, but tonight's experience left me feeling unsure if I'll be coming back. Truthfully, tonight's experience was just a comedy of errors -- at least it provided entertainment. 27 minutes after being seated and told "your server will be right with you", we had yet to see our server, receive drinks, or the like. On one side of us, a 4-top had finished their meal, paid, and left, and a couple was now at the table and had received drinks and ordered. It finally dawned on me that we were likely sitting in a dead-zone and that the waitstaff had some sort of mix-up as to whose section we were in. Not wanting to make a fuss, we continued to wait and chuckled to ourselves a bit about the fact that we felt invisible. Eventually, one of the hostesses was kind enough to notice us and offered to grab us drinks and find our server. About 5 minutes after we had our drinks, our server finally made her appearance. When she arrived, she did confirm that there was a mix-up with whose section we were in, so it sounds like there are some kinks that need to be worked out with the new remodel. Our server was perfectly kind, so I don't want to misrepresent that, but her absence was greatly felt throughout the evening and we found ourselves waiting for long periods or being taken care of by the hostess. When our appetizer finally arrived, we thought that the evening was going to take a turn, but the comedy of errors continued. Since at that point, we had been sitting at our table for an extended period of time and had finished off our Lodgepoles, someone came and took our plates and silverware and looked at us as if expecting us to leave -- prior to receiving our food. Thankfully, shortly after that, our food came out and we were able to get new silverware, but it was a bit comical. I ordered the General Tso bowl, which seemed to be a safe bet, but when it arrived, the rice was undercooked and crunchy, and it was clumped together in hard balls. Additionally, the sauce was far too sweet for my taste -- like sickly sweet -- it felt like it was some sort of dessert dish. At that point, I felt unimpressed and ready to wrap up the evening and leave. As we waited for the check (once again a 20+ minute wait after having to-go boxes from the kind hostess), I went to the restroom to wash up and noticed urine all over the toilet seat. Yuck! I certainly don't blame MacKenzie River for that as gross, inconsiderate patrons can leave their mark on any establishment, but that just seemed to further color my unfortunate experience. When the check finally came, I half expected our waitress to offer to give us our Lodgepoles complimentary for our wait and the errors on their end, or at least acknowledge that this wasn't their best showing, but she continued like nothing had happened. These types of things happen, and are honestly understandable, but the multitude of them colored it as a negative experience for me, and while MacKenzie River is considered a staple by many Montanans, I can't say that my overall view is positive. I hope they can get the kinks worked out of...
Read moreMackenzie River is one of my favorite restaurants. Their food and drinks are amazing but unfortunately I cannot day the same for their service. The last 6 times me and my family have been there, we have been told to wait for a long time in multiple fields of the restaurant. For example, we got in there one night when half of the tables were completely empty. We proceeded to ask for a table and were told that the wait was 15-20 minutes long. So we waited for a table to “open up” and when we were finally seated, we ordered both drinks and food as fast as we could because we were all very hungry. After we ordered, a couple minutes passed and the waitress came back and told us that our lodge poles were in the oven. But surprise, surprise, we ended up not getting lodgepoles at all. We waited about 45 minutes for our actual food to come upon which the waitress apologized profusely for the wait. Us, realizing that there were no lodgepoles, asked about them and as it turns out, they were forgotten. We ended up getting them to go but, it would have been much nicer to have eaten them in the restaurant - after all that is why we came out instead of ordering in. Another experience that I have had there is very similar to this time except for the fact that the waiting time was longer, 2 items of food were forgotten, and the manger had to come and apologize to us. And every time someone apologizes for the wait, the excuse is “sorry, we are running slow tonight.” But they proceed to do nothing about it. I would highly recommend Mackenzie River to anyone who asked if their service wasn’t...
Read moreThe person who was helping me appeared to have know idea. It took him, god know how long to put in our order and had to ask me several times what I wanted. Even asked basic question like, what size do you pizzas come in, they couldn’t even answer it instead a guy a, “it’s about this size” , they proceeded to use their hand as it were to mean something. When I returned to my hotel room only to find that I only received one side of and blue cheese and ranch (I ordered a couple of each, that usually means two (FYI, I paid for them). I walk back to get the other two and they gave me dollop of blue cheese. I stood there at the pickup window waiting for the employee standing at the counter for at least 5 minutes to see if he would acknowledging me. Apparently appears to be invisible they didn’t even bother to recognize me. Finally I total him that I didn’t get the other two per he seemed confused since he was the one who took the original order. After several minutes he finally returns with my blue cheese and to my amazement the of the amount of ranch vs blue cheese was silly. The ranch was full and the blue cheese had like taps worth. I was astonished. I walked out and I will never come back here. Overall the service was mid and the pizza is just as mid compared to what you pay for it. I usually don’t leave bad review, but I have no choice the service industry has gone hill in the last decade and people expect more especially for what we pay to go out to eat. Hope you...
