X-Fish was a favorite of ours, We've been here more than 5x in the past and this time we were met with the rudest most disrespectful server I've ever had the displeasure of meeting in a resturant. Simon is a piece of work and should be fired for his extremely rude attitude.
We had the signature menu and the food was amazing. However, on our first order of salmon, one of my friends found a piece of fish bone. We told our waiter and the she was apologetic and told us she would tell the chefs, we thought it was no big deal since mistakes happen.
The next plate we ordered another 10 pieces of salmon, this time we found 2 different and much larger fish bones in the salmon. This is unacceptable not only did they serve 1 chocking hazard, they served 2 more right after. Displeased, we waved at the main counter and a server came over. This is Simon, we told Simon that not only did we found 1 piece of fish bone on the order before, but we found 2 fish bones in this order, and that this was dangerous. Simon immediately replied in the most derogatory tone I quote "Ok? It Happens, were not robots we dont have x-ray vision".
Baffled at this gaslighting, I replied "No, it is not ok, 1 might be a mistake but 3 is negliances, whats more appalling is your horrible attitude and justification. Not only did you not apologize, I've been to hundreds of sushi places, never have I heard such excuse, you do not leave choking hazards in your food and say it happens.
Even more defensive, Simon responded "So what do you want me to do, fishes have bones, our chefs are picking them out, we will miss some. It's common.
Frustrated, I raise my voice to ask the neighboring tables if they think 3 fish bones in your sushi is common and acceptable. Simon now panics as the other guest look on in disgust. He repeats I'll tell the chef, do you want to talk to the chef, what do you want me to do"
I told him "I want you to understand that this is not acceptable and you shouldn't come in with that disrespectful tone like we're wasting your time, instead of making ridiculous excuses maybe own up to the mistake, we arent asking for anything besides an apology. To which he nodes while rolling his eyes before saying "I'm sorry, I'll call the chef over if you want" before walking away.
After looking at other reviews, it seems like Simon leads the servers and has a history of dismissing similar complains, he also said that a hair in your food is also common in another review.
This place should be close down for their dangerous practices and lack of care for customer safety. I will be reporting X-Fish to the Department of Health.
This was such an upsetting encounter we all lost our appetites, which is sad because the food here is good.
If you come here, beware of bones in your salmon and Simon belittling your concerns and treating you like an idiot because "They dont have X-ray vision"
I will be reporting X-Fish to the Department of Health.
Note, the image only shows 2 bones because one of them was collected...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband took me here on my birthday. We eat at AYCE Sushi places regularly, but have not tried this restaurant yet.
We saw a few reviews and it seemed that the place was worth a shot and most of the negative was geared toward one server. We agreed that as long as it's not that person helping us we should be good. Boy were we wrong!
Within 15 seconds of entering the bad vibes started. The restaurant was only about 20% full. It was still early for dinner at only about 3pm. We were brought to a small table and asked MEGAN if we could have the booth since it was pretty quiet.
She told us we couldn't. I pointed to another party of 2 that was sitting in a booth, and asked why we couldn't also, since there were many empty seats. We asked her to please ask. With her very unhappy face she asked another person and they said we could have the booth. She asked us to take the waters to the new table. My husband said he didn't want them. With an eye roll she repeated 'you don't want the water?!' And proceeded to walk us to the table. The waters ended up sitting there and the next party ended up with them. MEGAN wasn't doing extra duties.
So we did the Omakase. The Omakase plate came out which is supposed to be the chefs special. Daniel was our server. Maybe this isn't protocol at this restaurant, but normally you let the customer know what the fish is, since it can be unique for the day. We knew most, but there was one or two that we didn't know. The plate was just sort of left quickly.
During the meal at one point MEGAN came by while my husband was using a sushi plate as his main plate because the other one had some scraps on it, chopsticks still in hand and resting on the plate - she swipes the plate from under him and walks away. No "may I take your plate" - nothing. This was the rudest thing I've seen in quite some time.
Another thing that she played a part in was seating couples of two right next to us as soon as they came in. Even closer to dinner time. This was around 4pm. After all that resistance to letting us sit there when the restaurant was quiet - the "policy" seems non-existent anymore.
My husband looked around to see if we were on a hidden TV show lol, this experience with MEGAN was so bad. She was even wearing white sneakers. Seemed she worked part time at McDonald's in the ghetto.
On a positive note, the runners from the back should be commended. The hispanic male and female actually were courteous and politely asked to clear the plates and were happy and polite when they brought food to our table.
There needs to be some quality control on the service here. Apologies in reviews aren't enough. A lot would have to change to get us to come back. And if we did it would probably be another location.
Fish was okay. Crab wrapped in salmon was very good. But this is not upscale in any sense. And a consultant literally needs to go in and fix the service issues, because nobody else...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAll around terrible experience. Iāve been to their Buena Park counterpart multiple times and have always had a pleasant experiences, but this is probably the worst experience with service Iāve ever had.
First, we were seated third at opening, but somehow the waiter didnāt even acknowledge us, much less ask us which menu we wanted until 15 mins in and when we asked the host about it, she just dismissively said āthe server will get to you when they have the time.ā The Buena Park one is much more crowded at opening but they were always prompt at taking our order and if they were busy, they would at least acknowledge us or tell us that theyāll get to us when they can.
Then, before we were even able to get our order in, they made us move tables to accommodate a table of 18 coming in half an hour. I donāt normally mind moving, but if itās at opening is it not the job of the host, who was just standing there, to make sure the large table was set aside before they sat everyone down? What is she even there for?
Not to mention, the orders took a significantly longer time to come out than the BP one and it wasnāt even as remotely crowded as the other one.
The waiter also didnāt check up on our table once the entire time even though we heard him check on other tables. They also didnāt go around refilling waters like store so our water cup remained empty.
And at the end, the host at the audacity to tell us our 90 mins was up while we were eating and then told us that sheāll wait to charge since they charge for leftovers as if sheās doing us a favor when the only reason weāre not done eating and still has food on the table was because they took so long to acknowledge us and then the food took forever to come out.
They had a 18% gratuity for tables for parties of 5, but honestly, they didnāt deserve any tip for their service, if you can even consider what they gave as service at all. I mean how can call this a service when the waiter only talked to us once to give us the ordering paper and QR code?
I liked the X-Fish in Buena Park, but this entire experience makes me never want to come back to...
