Starting a job in a new environment means I’m going to experience a lot of change. Change of place and a change of pace. Today, my 13th day on the Cen Res team, I expanded my journey and finally let my taste buds explore the options here at the base of Super Bee. A short jaunt across the dead-end road leads me to the entrance of JJ’s Rocky Mountain Tavern.
A cubiclemate had quietly munched on the Tavern Nachos the day prior and as my lunch break approached I gathered the necessary data to place a to-go order. I was greeted by friendly staff, it’s only day 2 of this season but they were ready for anything, I could tell. The transfer of nacho power was smooth and effortless. I rushed back to my desk to evaluate my provisions.
A varied concoction of flavors drape over my tongue and through my mouth as my taste buds dance with the light spices and silky flavors of cheese sauce. My molars breakthrough the textures of black beans and green chili. An occasional burst of raw onion breaks through it all. Pulled pork: soft, moist and delectable. The large dollop of guac once sat atop the mound of intricately placed chips and toppings, now it is blended amongst the other ingredients, adding a cool sensation to the tingling of my mouth.
All in all, as a nacho connoisseur, I am exceptionally satisfied with this meal. The presentation within a functional vessel made of reconditioned materials is the best I could expect for in this situation. The vessel was paired with biodegradable flatware which was top-notch. The flatware will live in my desk to be used for the undeniable Tavern Nacho orders I will be making in the future.
The only disappointment I have from this encounter is I failed to capture the nacho-greatness in picture form. Their power over me was too much.
The only aspect I cannot speak towards is the sour cream, alas it is a topping I fail...
Read moreDude! All I can say is this - I ate here a while ago. It was pretty funny, because I'd been snowboarding all day and was hungry and exhausted. I didn't think much of it, and ordered a plate of nachos figuring they'd be run of the mill, ordinary nachos like anywhere else... Well, I waited and waited.... and waited! A long time actually. FINALLY, what came out before my eyes? A MASSIVE plate of extraordinarily made nachos. I mean these were some serious nachos, unlike any I'd ever had before!! In fact nothing even came CLOSE to this.
Well, I'm happy to report they were UTTERLY fantastic, the best nachos ever. I've not had anything similar before or since - perhaps indescribably good. It was like, if you could possibly make nachos as ABSOLUTELY 'perfect' that was these nachos. I felt like maybe they had taken extra special care with mine or something, at least it sure tasted that way They were SO good, I'd HAPPILY wait another 100 times if it meant the same absolutely outstanding nachos.
It really was like a 'something you have to try' in your lifetime experience, I'm so glad that I did. What made it even better was that my expectations where nowhere near what I received. Thanks Colorado, I'm so happy I visited, I feel like part of my soul is from there even though I'm from South Dakota. You are...
Read moreAfter many trips to Copper Mountain, we finally made it to JJ's Rocky Mountain Tavern, and I'm sad it took so long. We have always stayed in the west village and the fact that JJ's is in the east village always made it sound like too much effort to get to. But we finally took a ride on the Copper shuttle system and found it to be easy to use and dropped us right at the back door to JJ's. We made a reservation for our group of eight and arrived to find our table waiting.
I had the standard chicken sandwich ($16.95) topped with your choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle on a baked roll. This typically comes with seasoned waffle fries, but I opted to substitute for the onion rings, which were a great choice, though the waffle fries are also good. The chicken sandwich was good, nothing too crazy. Next time I would probably try one of their other options like the New Mexican version with cheddar, cotija, green chiles, and ancho chipotle sauce. Also worth ordering are JJ's Drumsticks which are huge! The draft beer list is solid and has something for everyone. We will definitely be back to JJ's...
