Beautifully done custom cakes that taste good. I've purchased cakes from them in the past without incident. However, this recent purchase was different. I ordered a 10 inch tall cake (3 layers of cake, 2 fillings), no decorations. I stated when ordering that I would contact them prior to picking up the cake, with the inscription I wanted on the board that the cake sits on. I was told, "no problem, as long it's before you come to pick it up, it takes no time". A few hours before picking up the cake, I called to give them the inscription, was told (again) no problem. Moments later, I get a call from someone named "Karen" who stated there was absolutely no way an inscription could be written on the board. The reason she gave me was that the board was 10 1/2 inches. I asked why they would put a 10 inch TALL cake on a 10 1/2 inch board in the first place? How do you expect the cake to be supported in transit? She then stated, and I quote, "Well I don't know what to tell you because the cake is already done. It's no way. Besides, the notes say no decoration". I said does it also say inscription will be added later? She replied that it didn't matter, because there wasn't room on the board. I told her for amount of money I spent on A CAKE, I expected different customer service. Her response was, "Oh, ok". I thanked her and hung up. I was livid. My daughter called back and asked if they would place the cake, with its original board, onto a larger board, and they agreed. Here's my issue(s): 1) Someone should've known better as it relates to the size of the board. How did that become my problem? 2) When "Karen" called me, she was rude and her tone angered me. It's one thing if there's an issue that can't be resolved or even if it can, and you're just notifying me, don't you dare speak to me as though you were donating the cake to me. I'm a PAYING customer so watch your mouth. The nonchalant cavalier attitude at the end of the call was especially insulting. 3) Do NOT tell the customer what ABSOLUTELY can NOT be done without exploring any solutions. When I placed my order I spoke with a lovely lady, Heather. When I picked up the cake, I was helped by an equally pleasant young lady at the counter (didn't get her name). Despite the fact that there are nice people there, and they do a great job with the cakes, albeit very pricey, thanks to "Karen", I will NOT patronize this establishment again. Evidently my business isn't valued, so I'll spend my money where it's...
Read moreCreative Cakes can proudly boast about dainty delicacies appealing to the eye and seemingly appetizing to the tummy. Although, as a new customer, I had hoped Creative Cake's service could match their impressive high ratings online.
At times complacency accompanies success and sometimes compromises value. An out of town guest ordered a cake for me from Creative Cakes Bakery.
My guests and I were extremely disappointed with the cake. The flavors of the frosting, filling and cake were not complimentary. In fact, guests separated the cake layers and moistened the breading with melted ice cream and/or milk to ease consumption and swallowing of the sectioned cake slices. Fortunately an alternative dessert was ordered to satisfy our guests.
I followed up with the out of town guest to better understand what had happened. Much to the dismay of myself and invited guests, we learned the Creative Cakes staff did not take the time to assist the out of town guest with the order. Instead of providing assistance with the ordering process, selections and flavors, it appeared the staff was more motivated to give attention to personal matters instead of servicing customers.
Several statements by the staff included, but not limited too:
"...pick something, pick anything...'everything' (e.g. frosting, batter) goes together."
"...I can't tell you what to order."
"...I don't know what you're talking about; I don't have time to look at online pictures of cakes..."
I am glad an out of town guest thought enough of me to call another state and order a cake for me...I am extremely disappointed Creative Cakes did not assist her with the cake process and selection. Creative Cakes has motivated myself, guests, friends and family to encourage our colleagues and future potential customers to explore alternative bakery competitors before selecting Creative Cakes.
I haven't enjoyed a surprise birthday party in many years. We had hoped Creative Cakes would value the business of each customer; however, we were wrong. Although, we were right to find an alternative bakery that valued our business and delivered arguably the best dessert in the south suburbs; their services & products more than satisfied our guests...unlike...
Read moreI am long time customer of this bakery and I generally enjoy every cake I ordered. But the most recent cake I ordered was not what I expected. I ordered a yellow cake with white chocolate mousse filling. Overall the cake was good but I could not tell if filling was truly white chocolate or just the usual cream used to frost the cake. I could definitely tell that it was not mousse. I called about the issue and a young lady told me to send over a pic and she checked with the bakers. She then said it was indeed "mousse" and that "mousse" had a whip cream consistency. After disagreeing with her, she was very rude and said "well I don't know what else you want me to do about it", as if I'm wasting her time. I called back to speak with a manager, who wasn't any better. She kept with the same story and even went so far as to lie to me and tell me "mousse is just a fancy french word for whip cream", when in fact is a french word for form. They were disrespectful, indifferent, obnoxious and insensitive. I even stated to the manager that it feels like they are blaming customers for being unaware of difference between their understanding and the bakery's understanding of culinary terminology. Overall their attitude was we "fulfilled" the order regardless if the order actually taste as stated. So I choose not to continue supporting a business with that kind...
