My co-worker wanted to try a new southern food restaurant for lunch, so we decided to give Faye and Joe's Southern Bowl a try. We had both placed our order online through their website. Although we were picking the food up, I did give a tip to support. When my co-worker went to pick up the food, they didn't have one of the items I had ordered online. It would've been nice to have a heads up that some of my items weren't available. Especially since I got a text alert saying my order was ready. However, they did try and offer me another dessert. I just really only wanted the peach cobbler. They did say they would just refund me for that.
When I got my food (I ordered the catfish dinner with mac and cheese and sweet potatoes) my fish seemed more on the dark side and fried a little hard. However, it was still pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the mac and cheese. Seemed like it was plenty of cheese, but the noodles didn't seem seasoned. I like mine with some seasoning. Needs more than pepper but it wasn't salty, so I was ok for that. I did have to reheat it too so that could've been part of it. I absolutely LOVED the sweet potatoes though. Those were my favorite. It was really good.
The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because it's really not a place for lunch. The food wasn't all bad. I just expected more quality for the price especially for lunch. There is really no price difference from lunch to dinner. I spent $31, not including the refund for the peach cobbler I ordered that was over $6. I did give a tip, but it was only $3. My plate was more of a dinner plate, and it was $18.62. I know with inflation, everything is higher, but I personally can't pay $30 when I want to eat out for lunch. They do have some daily specials but those are about the same price. Would I give this place another try? Possibly, just not for lunch. I may go back for Sunday dinner or something. Just doesn't make sense to spend that much for lunch. If they are able to have some smaller plates for lunch that are like $10-$12, that might be more affordable for me. Every penny counts. Other than that, I think they are pretty...
Read moreWent to this establishment yesterday(09/22/25) for the first and last time. We ordered the catfish dinner(the catfish was ok), meatloaf dinner ( was ok) and short rib dinner( not well seasoned nor cooked long enough). The sides were Mac n cheese(dry like the photo on their website), collard greens( had a nice taste to them but a little undercooked for my liking) yams (missing a whole lot of everything) red beans and rice( just horrible) black eyed peas and rice( horrible as well). The young lady taking our order seemed to be overwhelmed and had a nasty attitude until the manager came up front. Asked the lady whom was taking our order could we get fresh Mac n cheese because she was scrapping the side of the empty dish to give us what was stuck to the sides and she replied she has to give us that and they are not allowed to get a new pan until every bit is out of the pan all with a take or leave it attitude. Along comes a lady that I thought was the owner, asked her if she was the owner and she informed me that she wasn’t and that she’s a manager. I asked her how long do they keep the food out before switching it out, or what the policy that they have about the freshness of the food, she looked me dead in my face and said “First of all, Do you see how many people are in here?” “Does it look like anything stays out long around here?” “And to answer your question, everything is switched out when everything thing is completely empty.” “You have the option to step aside and wait for a fresh pan to be brought out or get something else.” I guess she told me huh? The only reason I kept it cute was one because people are always saying that “We’re are own worst enemy.” And two I still wanted to give the food a try which they say “Don’t judge a book by its cover. Cause although the place was packed the food was dry and nasty just like their attitudes. Business owner to Business owner, “It doesn’t matter how many customers you have coming through that door, But it most definitely matters how many will continue to return...
Read moreThis place would have gotten all 5 stars. However, they are consistently lacking in several areas and they are as follows; They know that Sunday afternoon is the busiest day for them, but they never have enough product to serve the overwhelming crowd. The atmosphere is welcoming, with plenty of seating for those who dine in. The staff is warm, friendly and happy to be there. The food is quite delicious. I greatly enjoy the baked turkey wing. It's succulent, well-seasoned and fall-off-the-bone tender! The fried chicken wings are crispy, fresh and tasty. Pared with the baked macaroni, candied sweet potatoes and collard greens, or any of the many side dishes offered, you create a meal that can satisfy the biggest of appetites. However, I had to choose a different side because my favorite side( collard greens) was in short supply due to poor planning on the restaurants part. I realize that very popular items sometimes run out. But this particular restaurant does so almost every single Sunday. The side that I ordered instead left a little to be desired. In my opinion, the cornbread dressing is really, really bland. I think that if they correct these deficiencies, this restaurant would be second to none in this area. I really enjoyed my meal here. I recommend it for a weeknight dinner when they are not so busy and all offered menu items are plentiful. All meals are served in to go containers and customers are welcome to dine-in either of two dining rooms. The Southern Bowl is a good place to go for soul food in the South...
