First time back in over 17 years, due to a move. Sadly, and I’m trying to be very fair here, not what it used to be. We always ordered pizza, never tried anything but the pizza. The pizza used to be the very best I ever had. Not anymore, still good, but not excellent, and not worth the high cost. I ordered a medium with sausage, peperoni, spinach, mushroom, onion, and garlic. The mushroom pieces, when you could taste or find them, were no larger than a small pebble. The garlic was hit or miss and the pizza could stand more spinach and a few more onions. The peperoni covered the whole pie, but were thin slices. The sausage, my biggest disappointment, was few and far between, maybe a couple nickel size pieces on each slice. I remember when the sausage covered the whole pie, you could not take a bite without getting sausage. The sauce was still the same, chunky and delicious. Overall, I’m willing to pay the price, but sadly, not for this pizza, at least not the one I received.
Back in the day, I once order pizzas for the old St Francis Blue Island Hospital. The elderly family member, lady, who used to sit at the end of the bar special made the pizzas for me. They all were EXCELLENT, but one had large pieces of salami on it as well. A huge hit. That’s the...
Read morePizza is great but that's just about the only good thing about Louisa's.
So let's get this out of the way, the pizza is fantastic. It is a nice twist to the iconic deep dish pizza as it is not so thick and has a very fresh tomato taste to the sauce. Crust is nice and buttery as well and the topping are good too. If you were doing take out I'd say five stars.
But each topping you add to the base cheese pizza is going to cost a dollar for just the personal pizza and can go up to nearly $3 for the large per topping. So if I got a personal pizza with peppers onions and mushrooms it's gonna cost an additional 30% of what the pizza cost. This seems a bit pricey too Me.
Second the service there is not great. I don't know if the staff is family or something but they always seem awkward with costumers for some reason. Also the tables, chairs and shakers are all the lowest quality which isn't a huge deal but for the price and the ambiance of the place it is kind of weird.
Also the special salad for the table was piled on and served on a plate. Just put it in a bowl so we can easily mix it and spoon it to the table without making a mess.
Stay for the pizza but everything else...
Read moreI have very mixed feelings about this place. The outdoor sign states: Louisa's Gourmet Pizza and Pasta, so I was looking forward to the new adventure. I'd never before eaten "gourmet" pizza. Initially, upon entering, I was taken aback by the decor. I thought, at first, perhaps, that I'd walked into a little corner dive bar. The atmosphere was rather awkward. Later, after taking our orders, I was forced to politely and indirectly complain that our waiter was being less than attentive after waiting over 10 minutes to be able to request another cup of coffee. I was becoming agitated as we waited over 40 minutes for 2 individual-sized pizzas. After those little bumps in the road, however, everything turned around. Our waiter became pleasantly attentive, and Oh-! The food! It was so magnificent and the portions so large, that all my earlier irritations immediately fell away. One negative that's stayed with me, however, is the lack of either a dessert or drink menu. This is one thing that would prevent me from returning. But, the food. The food...
