I cant say anything about the atmosphere or service at the restaurant, but I can say the BBQ sauce I had at Taste Of Kitsap was the worst I've ever had. It tasted like sweetened spaghetti sauce with a sprinkle of clove, and it had the texture of tomato paste. This business has a store front and high ratings. Either the sauce I was served was not what they serve in the store or people around here don't know what BBQ is. I traveled the south for about 12 years. Texas to Georgia. BBQ everywhere. I have a large sample size to choose from, and I am telling you this sauce is hands down without a doubt the worst sauce period.
I'm also adding in there was no smoke ring or smoke flavor from the brisket or pork either. Not sure how you'd have brisket over smoke for as long as it takes to cook a brisket properly (HOURS) and it wouldn't pick up the flavor at all or get a smoke ring. Pretty sure that's an oven brisket, not smoked. I can say exactly the same things about the pulled pork.
A positive thing I can say is the brisket was not dried out. It appeared to be cooked slow and low, just not over smoke. The pulled pork wasn't dry either. They cook at the proper temps. Just need to do it over wood to be BBQ.... and fix...
Read moreOverall the meat was excellent. I had the brisket, rib tips and pulled pork. Sides were gizzards and coleslaw. Wife had rib tips and pulled pork. Sides were fries and fried pickles. So here is the bad. Too much bbq sauce over the meat. Should be placed on the side and let me determine how much sauce I want. I think the meat should be able to hold its own. The gizzards were cooked perfect except the coating is way too pepper for gizzards. The coleslaw basically is bland. It had enough cream too it, just no flavor. The thing that really bothered me is that after ordering all that food, they charge 25 cents for a dip cup of ranch. Never been charged for a dip cup for fried pickles. The gal who took our order needs to work on her welcoming skills. Not super friendly. She also needs to wear gloves on both hands when making sauces, especially after handling money. They need to work on keeping the all of 8 tables that have clean. I'm glad I tried it but probably won't...
Read moreThis place is the Best!! This is Louisiana Style cooking for sure. The meat has a smoked flavor that you KNOW didn't come out of a bottle..and further proof is right there next to the restaurant in the form of a very large smoking BBQ..we observed the "pitmaster" checking the meats. Very tender and cooked to perfection..but wait up! The side dishes are of equal quality. Cornbread w/your meals, of course, but you'll also find collard greens, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, coleslaw and more..expect them to pack a Lil kick..this is Louisiana style!! Great food and I'm going again. Yum This is a small business, attached to a gas station, with a smoking pit across from it. I've been to the station many times but never noticed this gem of a food stop. Highly recommend you come hungry..around $15-$20 plate..and worth...
