I recently wanted to start getting a little more exercise than I usually get; unfortunately, I'm pretty tired after taking care of my mom and my cousin, so motivation is a little bit of an issue. My husband is working from home, so I can't blast the music and do a program at our house; not that there is much room here anyway, but our house is a single level and the only place I could attempt to do anything is near his office.
So, I've been threatening to join a gym for a few weeks now; although I'm not thrilled about going to a gym, especially during all of these covid outbreaks, I thought to myself, if I pay for it, I would more likely use it. So what gym was able to get my business? Planet Fitness, it's relatively close to my house, and there is no commitment; you pay your startup fee (I was able to get in with a deal), yearly fee, and a monthly fee of ten dollars plus tax. Today was my first time; I plan to go at least twice a week and use the treadmill, hopefully, a little more often, but timing it will be tricky, so we'll see.
Although familiar with the building, I could not help but awe at how large it was inside. As I walked into the gym, the counter was to my left; I finished signing a couple of papers, you know those papers, "If you destroy our property, we'll take your firstborn." Ok, not that harsh, but you know you're not getting out of there without signing something. The attendee grabbed a paper of rules and went through them with me; I dare say, I couldn't hear due to wearing a mask and his ability to talk low and relatively fast. I was able to glance over the paper he was telling me about, and most of which I can't remember anyway other than no grunting or taking a call at your workout station. I signed and grabbed a treadmill and did my 20 minutes.
As I was working out, I was able to glance around the gym. I saw several cleaning stations, endless rows of workout equipment, and several t.v's with various things shown. By the way, you have to clean your station after using it; there we go again, trusting that honor system. Everyone I saw there (which happened to be about ten people) was spaced apart and wearing a mask. I happened to notice one lady cleaning her station, which happened to be a treadmill; she did a quick spray on the paper towel, wiped over the screen one time, and didn't do the bars at all. In her defense, I didn't see her grabbing the bars, but then again, she was already on the treadmill when I started mine. "Please take responsibility and thirty seconds and do a wipe down; who's to say you didn't touch them at least once."
The gym looked clean and bright with colors of purple and yellow; there were no typical gym odors or foul smells and had no messy floors. Unfortunately, I did not use restrooms, so I cannot comment on them; in fact, I didn't explore the other gym areas, so I will eventually, just not now . My only qualm with Planet Fitness is that I was not too fond of giving them checking account information to deduct the yearly membership fee and the monthly fee automatically. That alone came close to being a deal-breaker for me. I was able to do an initial join-up with my credit card, which should have been good enough for everything. I hope this is something they re-think and change or at least give the option to do one or another in the future.
Overall I like the gym and look forward to re-reviewing them in the future!

Read moreHorrible customer service, dull personalities that staff the place not to mention they have no knowledge or care on the importance of fitness. They carrythe personalities of employees at a jack in a box. The only employees that have the energy that sits well in the fitness industry is the girl with tattoos and the glasses a the islander gentleman with glasses. Love their energy and tbh make the place welcoming. If you want a place to fulfill your fitness journey and to understand why they call a gym a club go else where, because that place is a joke. I just moved from Seattle an am heavily into to fitness and have been juggling memberships at the Y an pf, a because of the customer service given from dull, dry, service given from the Mexican looking women with the glasses at this pf location, I am dropping this pf membership an going to have another reason why pf is the biggest joke in the industry. I had a surprise billing, explained that to her an sd “all I have to do is put the money in my account, but seeing how I’m here can I get my regimen in an go about putting the money in my account after?”. With her dry personality and clearly her lack of understanding the importance of once fitness journey given her and (she lacks empathy and understanding of fitness judging from her physical appearance an personality ) denied my access. I get policy, but fitness goes deep an is peoples sanctuary an refugee an clearly she has no understanding an has no business in the fitness community. I will continue my membership with Y an stand strong with pf being the biggest joke in the fitness industry, yea i get it’s a business but gyms eventually becomes place of serenity. People escape their own home life using the gym as an outlet, but when you have introverts with no people skills or knowledge of how to coexist with the fitness community then you have no retention. An then have the nerve to tell me about a “20 dollar fee”… I’ll gladly spend my 45 dollars a month at the Y which has amazing staff, better equipment, an the comfort of having the energy and atmosphere...
Read moreAlmost everything you can ask for and want in a gym. I would have given 5 stars however after traveling for work and seeing other PF around I feel the local Bremerton PF is not reaching their full potential and settling on a par standard. There is only one drinking fountain location in the entire facility and it’s not water bottle friendly like other PF locations making it an inconvenience to go clear across the gym to get a drink. The exercise mats are not hung on the wall like other PF and are just stacked on the floor so seems counterproductive to wipe them down and just stack them on the floor and just loses the clean appearance of organization. The recent change in paper towels was not a good choice, they are thinner and just require you to use more so seems counterproductive as well. Curious why they couldn’t use the towels that are already wet and ready to wipe down the machines vice having to take the bottle to the machine or spray the towels. The stretching and 360 area could be swapped that would IMHO make more sense or separate completely with the leg machines. The only thing I would really like to see in all PF that I haven’t seen yet are spin bikes and maybe a versa-climber. Both are great workouts and would be IMHO a great addition to the PF family of machines. Lots of patrons must not be able to read the signs saying phone use in lobby area only and none of the employees are holding them to the standards. We need a key hook board so you can just come in and hang up your keys.
All observations aside I really enjoy PF and their location selection is great for the areas I have traveled and the Bremerton gym even at busy times has always had plenty of open equipment. Great gym selections at a great price and I assume that there are great changes...
