Let me start by saying I’ve been coming here for a couple of years and it’s my favorite place to get a coffee and a bite almost every day that I can. However as of recently things have changed. I know there are new owners and it seems the transition process is not going smooth. I’ve come to know the baristas here rather well and I can see they are struggling as they deal with change in management. They are as lovely and attentive as always but the changes are beginning to wear… Firstly, the door doesn’t open properly and hasn’t for weeks. Personally I was going to leave assuming they were closed before I saw another customer who managed to shove the door open. According to the workers they’ve tried to have it fixed but it seems to not be a priority of the new ownership. For a short time there was a sign letting customers know that the door stuck but was open. The sign has been removed but the door is not fixed… Many times they’ve been out of stock on basic ingredients for my order, the workers are very understanding and kind about the issue but unfortunately it’s not an issue they can fix without help from the owner.
As I said I love State Gate and I don’t want to stop going but if this decline continues I sadly will have to find somewhere that is able to give customers the same orders they’ve been purchasing for YEARS without issue.
I hope the owners can listen to the requests of their front line workers who truly know and care about what is needed by the customers.
I don’t want to see this place go under but if something doesn’t change I’m afraid me and likely many other regulars will lose patience and take business elsewhere. There’s no reason to fix something that isn’t broken but they’re trying anyways…
Unfortunate since it’s so accessible for shipyard workers…
I wish the best for this wonderful cafe and hope they take this growing concern with serious consideration.
Please don’t let’s this business go under I’ll...

I've been coming here off and on for years now, so I notice when things change like prices and options.
Let me start by saying they've nearly cornered the market in that little area because of their proximity to a shipyard gate and they definitely seem to take advantage of that. But recently the prices have gotten completely out of control. For instance, they charge nearly twice what my local gas station does for energy drinks and the coffee is priced similarly to a modest meal. They don't do substitutions for dietary restrictions, so if you want to replace something, you will be charged to add something else. They even recently removed complimentary condiments so you will be charged for every tiny sauce cup as well. Their options have also been hacked away over the last year or so. No more pizzas, and they've removed options to add veggies like green peppers or jalapenos to things.
My coworker has also had issues with unexpected substitutions in her coffee. She asked the barista why her coffee tasted odd one day, and the barista admitted that when they run out of cream, the owner just has them use ice cream mix and instructs them not to tell the customer. Shady and dishonest at a minimum, and possibly illegal to lie to a customer about what you're serving.
I understand inflation is an issue a business needs to be profitable but at some point this just reeks of greed. I stopped buying their coffee YEARS ago. Now it seems they've finally stripped any last lingering positives from their little business and I don't see...
Read moreI am a doordash delivery driver and everything I have had to pickup an order I have been treated poorly and ignored and even had a employee on my way out make the comment that they hate doordash. I am a pleasant and patient person and understand that it gets busy and that the stress of everything going on has everyone on edge but I personally still try to be pleasant and many othe businesses have employees who are still quite pleasant. Now I'm not sure if its because I deliver or because of health issues I am only able to wear a shield but I am complying with this mandate wether I agree with it or not but I truly do not understand why I was treated differently and why a customer who ordered food had to wait longer then 2 people who walked in after me and ordered there instead of online. This is their customer as much as mine when I take an order from their business to them and if its such a problem then they should no longer offer delivery through a third party and should hire their own drivers. I hope they find a better attitude towards delivery drivers as this is the only way some of us are able to support ourselves at the moment. Have a...
