We decided to try Remedy a while ago for date night, and were not impressed. We showed up around 7 pm, and they were a little busy, but not slammed. We were seated right away, but from there it fell apart fast.
Our waitress was pretty inattentive. We sat at our table watching as other people were seated and brought their drink orders before we were even approached. Once we were eventually able to put in our drink order, we had already been there long enough to know what we wanted to eat so we placed our food order at the same time.
I ordered the Derby sandwich with poutine as the side, and my date ordered the salmon cakes with the poutine for her side as well. Again, after watching several tables that were seated after us being bright their food, ours eventually made its way out to us.
The salmon cakes date ordered were decent, but had no salmon inside. Her poutine was cold, and the fries were over-cooked. Not a great start with the food…
I looked at my sandwich, and immediately noticed some problems. Not only did it look nothing like the photo, but the bread was burnt, and everything on the plate was cold. As we both had cold food on our plates, it was clear the food had been sitting a while before it was brought out to us. After a few moments, I was able to flag down someone (our waitress was still nowhere to be seen) and explained the issue and asked for the plate to be re-made.
In my attached photos, you can clearly see how they advertise the sandwich, how it initially came to the table (with burnt bread clearly visible) and the remade version. It’s concerning that the cooks plated something so clearly different from what they advertise, and the wate staff still chose to serve it. A complete breakdown at all levels. The fourth photo shows the difference in quality of the poutine between what my date was brought, and my freshly made batch on their second attempt.
The remade version had better plating and everything was warm. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn’t great. Everything was made with way too much salt, and borderline not edible. If I hadn’t already had so many issues at this point, it would have been sent back again, but at this point I was just ready to be done and leave. It might have been a bit more bearable if the waitress ever bothered to come back to the table and refill our drinks, but I suppose wanting another beer or more water was too much to ask.
At the end, our waitress eventually showed back up and brought the check and mentioned hearing that “something happened with some of the food”. No asking what actually happened, no apology, no offer to make anything right.
With so many other great options for food in the area, I haven’t been back and don’t see that changing...
Read moreIt was pretty quiet when we went in there on a Tuesday at 4 PM, which is actually a plus for me. Most places, when you sit down to have a drink, you have to contend with loud music, and clinking dishes. This was a great place to have a conversation. The drink order I placed was a call: a gin martini with a lemon twist. A simple drink, but hardly ever made well in most places that I go. I’ve actually been to distilleries that make gin, but make lousy martinis. When I saw the bartender pull the vermouth out of the refrigerator, I was interested. When she grabbed the Beefeater instead of a plastic well bottle, I was intrigued. When she asked if I wanted a lemon twist or olive for garnish, I was excited. When she stirred it, instead of shaking it, I was ecstatic. It was the best martini I’ve had outside my own home, bar none. Cold, crisp, and not overly diluted.I followed that with a rye Manhattan that was also on the money. Their house drinks looked good, and they also have some premium cocktails for a little more. But I have a suspicion that the bartender is skilled enough to handle most call out drinks that you might throw at her.
For food, they have a lot of entrees in the $20-30 range. They also have a Tuesday night steak special, a ball tip sirloin with fries for $13. For a couple bucks you can get your favorite adds. Steaks were done perfectly and were better than you expect from a $13 steak. All of their nightly specials sounded interesting, and were very well priced.
My only complaint is that they are too far away. About an hour from my house, and 30 minutes from my son’s house (who I met there). In spite of the drive,...
Read moreWe brought our Dad here to treat him for dinner as a check gift. Terrible experience from start to finish. We were told to seat ourselves and water was brought over to our table. We then sat for twenty minutes before we flagged down the trivia girl to ask for a server. A guy came from behind the bar and took our drink order. He then brought our drinks, set them down and walked off without saying a word. We then sat for 25 more minutes with zero sign of anyone helping us. We again flagged someone down so we could order. Two appetizers and three entrees. Never saw our appetizers. They were eventually dropped off when our meal came. We had added bacon to two of them and it was not on there. The poutine fries were a complete bowl of mush. The Risotto was more like dry rice with clumps of dried up rice and no seasoning. The pork chops were paper thin and overcooked. All of this could have been addressed at the time but once the food was dropped nobody ever came back to the table. We flagged someone down so we could pay and she asked why none of the food was eaten. We told her all the issues we had and we didn’t even get an apology let alone an effort to make any of it right. We hoped when she brought the bill that maybe it would be discounted to make up for all the issues but it wasn’t. We paid over $100 for one cocktail and three meals we barely touched. And the service was non existent. We had to flag someone down for every single...
