Island Fish and Grits — Restaurant in Brent

I heard all of the “great” reviews about this place, and decided to check it out to see for myself. What a TERRIBLE mistake. I would give 0 stars if I could. I ordered 2 4 pc tilapia, and instead of ringing me up for what I ordered, the cashier decides to body shame me and refuse to ring me up for what I ordered. Yes, sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? But that really happened. They didn’t want to serve me that portion size because I was apparently “too skinny” and “I couldn’t eat all that”. Who turns down a paying customer because of their weight? Who said that I was eating all of that myself? Then they had the nerve to make me the center of attention by having everyone in the store tell me that I was indeed “too skinny for that amount of food and to downsize”. After 5 mins of going back and forth, they finally gave me what I asked for. I was planning on tipping them big beforehand, but after the ignorance I’d just witnessed I think not. The food tasted like water and was disgusting. No seasoning or flavoring at all. I’m not understanding what the hype is with this place. You can make water flavored food at home and not be body shamed in the process. Save your money, I promise you’re not missing out...

I came here to pick up a DoorDash order. It looked like there was one person working, so I stood back to let her help the others. She completely went off on me for not stepping up to the counter, telling the other people in the dining room she “can’t stand people like me”. She threw the food on the counter saying “Here it is” and literally told me to get out. As I was leaving, she kept talking to the other customers about how annoying I was. Like I thought I was being respectful by waiting until she was ready to assist me. I even said please and thank you. Consider business personally lost from our family, but hopefully others, too. No one deserves to be screamed at in public, esp as a customer of a business, who didn’t really do anything wrong. The food smelled good, but honestly, NOT worth it. It was utterly embarrassing for myself, and for her business as her other customers apologized to me for her. I feel...

THIS is absolutely the best fish I have ever had. It is crispy, light, and with a gorgeous color. It's flaky, cooked perfectly and is a wonderful value for the enormous portion sizes. The Jamaican food is too delicious to adequately explain. Ms. Caroline - who is the kindest, friendliest women I have ever met - makes an ox tail dish that is this side of heaven. Ms. Caroline's jerk chicken is such a delicacy that she pure shames 5 star restaurants trying to imitate this savory perfection. She also makes these meat pies with a crust that is a golden wonder with a melt in your mouth flavor combination you wont find anywhere else. I love Ms. Caroline!
